Clinical Research
What Is Clinical Research?
Clinical research is a very important tool to help develop solutions that will help and benefit
people all over the world. Clinical research includes:
1. Medical research and behavioral research involving volunteer participants.
2. Investigations which are carefully developed and conducted with clinical outcomes
recorded.
3. Identification of better ways to understand human disease, to prevent, diagnose, and treat.
4. Trials that test new treatments, clinical management, long–term studies and clinical
outcomes.
5. Very strict scientific guidelines.
6. Ethical fundamentals to protect participants.
Research is a precise and systematic investigation to establish fact. Treatment is the concern and
care provided to improve a situation.
What Is a Clinical Trial?
The following testing in laboratories and animal studies, the most promising treatments are
carried into clinical trials. A clinical trial is also sometimes called as a clinical study.
A clinical trial:
a) Is a study of research that tests how well an intervention works in a group of people.
b) Tests for new techniques of screening, diagnosis, prevention, or therapy.
c) Is conducted in different phases.
Trials can only be conducted if there is a variability and doubt about the outcome. If the
outcome is already known from a previous study, trials cannot be conducted.
Why Is Clinical Research Important?
Research is important because-
 Clinical trials test how well new approaches and interventions work in people.
 These approaches can be behavioral, medical, or management.
 Each study answers scientific questions.
 Each study will help scientists prevent, diagnose, screen for, manage, and treat a disease.
People who take part in clinical trials contribute to the knowledge of how a disease progresses.

Where Do Clinical Trials Take Place?
Clinical trials take place all over the world:
 Health care provider offices.
 Medical centers.
 University, Community hospitals and clinics.
 Military and Veterans hospitals.
Clinical trials may consist of participants at one or two highly specialized centers. Or they may
include hundreds of locations at the same time.
A Few Benefits of Taking Part in a Clinical Trial
1. Participants have access to promising new approaches often not available outside the
clinical trial setting.
2. The vaccine , drug or other intervention being studied may be more effective than the
standard approach (although there is no guarantee that participants will receive the
experimental drug, vaccine, or other intervention).
3. Participants receive careful medical attention from a research team of doctors and other
health professionals.
4. Participants may be the first to benefit from the study.
5. Results from the study may help others in the future.
