3. I and My Inspiring City
My name is Ayoub Baaly. I am from Taroudannt, aged 18 years old. I study in Chabbi High
School at common core level. I’m keen on art, drawing and creativity. I love drawing and I do it all
the time. Although I am just a beginner in this field, my ambition is higher. I dream of becoming an
artist. My aim is to persue my higher studies in the artistic domain and serve my beloved city,
Taroudannt.
The big part of my artistic inspiration is derived from the city of Taroudannt, which is
historically and culturally unique. My little experience in art was highly affected by my
relationship with this city. It means a lot to me. The above pictures are some of my works drawn
on a part of Taroudannt wall. Here, I mention some of the historical and cultural aspects of this
beautiful city.
Taroudannt is one of the oldest towns in Morocco. It is located in the south of Morocco in
Souss Valley. Taroudannt is surrounded by a very long wall. The town's wall is nearly six
kilometres long and is punctuated by nine gates that are still in use. Outside the wall, there is a
small tannery producing travel equipment for camel riding, such as goat skin, and leather bags
and belts. In addition to that, it is characterized by its people’s traditional costumes. Women and
men are used to wear some kind of special clothes such as, "Jellaba", and the blue “Hayk", and so
many inhabitants still keep wearing these kinds of traditional clothes.

king andhis wife wanted a son. One day, Queen Anne gave
birth to twoboys, but thekingwasn’t happyabout it. Later,
the first boy became the kingand the second was jailed and
became a prisoner, but he didn’tknow whohe was. In

and he talkedto Phillip the second son of the king about his
story. Aramis decidedthat Philiphad to become the king of
France because he hoped to be rewardeda high position
like being the king’s advisor, prime minister or even a pope.
On August 15 everything was ready forthe feast at
Monsieur Fouquet’shouse in Vaux. At the time Aramis decidedtogo with theking totheprison,

5. Cheating in Exams
Cheating in exams is a widespread phenomenon in
Moroccan schools. So what are its forms, reasons,
consequences and what are the suggested solutions to
overcome it?
There are many forms of cheating. Students use
materials without permission like calculators, cell phones,
tablets…The most classic forms of cheating are looking at
someone’s exam, collaboration with others and sneak in
a note card.
The main reasons which lead students to cheat in a test
are as following: pressure to succeed, the second reason
is lack of time to revise their lessons, laziness as well as
the length of the curricular which is absolutely
overloaded.
Cheating in exams has got many negative effects on the
students as well as the society. First, if a student caught
cheating he/she might be excluded from exams; unequal
opportunities are another important result of exams
cheating. This may surely lead to the appearance of many
social problems such as bribery and corruption.
We can suggest a set of solutions to overcome this bad
habit as sensitizing students about the negative effects of
cheating, tough measures should also be taken against
those who cheat during exams, in addition to that
educators should also act by using strategies and
materials given to them by law so as to eradicate this
phenomenon in our schools.
In short, cheating in exams is not only a bad habit that
some students may be involved in the day of the exam,
but rather a moral issue. Therefore, students need to be
well-prepared to reach success and their personal
integrity by making efforts not by using useless means as
cheating.

My first trip to
It was my first trip to Canada; I woke up early, went to the airport and got on the plane
headed to Canada. The flight lasted four hours. I checked into a five star-hotel, I spent there
six hours, and then went to a restaurant by the sea that reminded me of a similar one back
home where I used to have lunch with an old friend of mine. It’s been two hours and I am still
in the restaurant waiting for my meal to arrive, the place was very quiet. I felt lonely which
made me go and sit next to a girl who was crying so hard, after we talked for a bit she told me
that her parents beat her violently every day. To be honest, she was very pretty and she didn’t
deserve that kind of treatment. It seems like I was wrong thinking that these kinds of
problems only exist in Morocco.
We spent three hours talking through which I knew her name, her age and goals in life.
She couldn’t pull herself together when I told her that I was Moroccan, she said that she’s been
dreaming about visiting Morocco since she was a little girl, so she asked if I could take her back
with me to Morocco. I accepted with a wide smile on my face. We set the time and the place to
meet, I hurried back to the hotel to pack and so did the girl. While I was getting ready to fly
back home with the Canadian girl I heard a knock on the door and when I asked who it was I
heard a gentle voice which I instantly recognized, it said: “come on, wake up you sleepy boy.
You are going to be late for school like you always do.” “What about the Canadian girl?” I
asked her. She replied: “I told you not to watch American movies so that you don’t end up
having these weird dreams.” Then I said to her smilingly “if you hadn’t woken me up, I would
have brought home this beautiful Canadian girl.” she said “I am sorry son, I promise I will not
wake you from your dreams next time because summer break is almost here! “
I got up and got dressed quickly , I had breakfast and on the way to school I was
thinking about finishing my beautiful dream tonight and get back to Canada , maybe I’ll find
the Canadian girl waiting for me at the airport .

7. The Story of the Old Man
Once upon a time, there lived an old man aged 75 in a village which was
being threatened by the invasion of a ghost. The old man used to leave
his village for work and follow the same path. One day, he decided to
change his way. After walking for a long time, he got lost in the wood.
He did not know where to go. Suddenly, he heard a voice coming from
far and started to follow the road where the voice was coming from.
After a moment, he realized that it was not a human voice. It was a
ghost's voice! When the man met the ghost, he asked him how to get out
of the woods. The ghost accepted on condition that the old man should
help him get rid of the people in the village. The old man refused. So, the
ghost threatened the man to kill him if he did not obey his orders. The
old man accepted his destiny and insisted on not helping the ghost. So,
the latter got very angry and killed the man with no mercy. When he
killed him, the ghost also died because he had killed an innocent man. So
the old man sacrificed himself to save the people in the village who
commemorate his death each year. Since then, the villagers lived
peacefully away from the ghost and his evils.

8. What if the sun always shines and there is no night
If the sun always shines there will be no
discrimination cause the sun will affect
people’s color, and there will be just one
mutual color, everyone will become black,
and there will be no difference between black
and white people. So far, everything is going
well. No, a big problem will appear. Water is
becoming less and less everyday because it
starts evaporating .It’s really a serious
problem which threatens the human
existence. That’s why all the world leaders
have an urgency meeting at the United
Nation Council to discuss this catastrophe
with scientists.
One of the scientists says: “This phenomenon
is the result of our greed, short-sightedness
ignorance and obstinacy. We were always
warned of the pollution by factories and the
chemical weapons, but who cares no one
listened to us.
Suddenly one of the leaders stopped him
and said: “We‘ll give you as much of money
as you want and we’ll offer you what you
need to solve this problem.”
The scientist laughed and said: “Do you
think that you can solve everything with
money? The environment has no price.
Ladies and gentlemen, I‘m sorry to say
that this problem has no solution” The
meeting finished and all thirsty people
around the world watching it were
shocked.
The problem of water’s still growing day
after day. Now there are no seas, no
rivers and no oceans. There is just little
water in a few places. As a consequence,
a global war starts ,not for oil or for
markets, but for water .It ‘s the war of
existence ,it ‘s the war of all fight all .The
water become less and less everyday and
people as well ,hundreds ,thousands,
millions die ,not annually, and not
monthly, but daily. Finally the war
finished. It’s not a period of peace, but
because there is no one to fight, everyone
died. Stop, this is not the end. It has
started to rain.

9. Absenteeism: Why Students Miss Classes?
In this interview with Mr. Ismail Id Ahmad Ouali, the
headmaster, and Mr. Salah Eddine Lakhder, the principal,
the club members try to find the reasons behind
absenteeism in Assaki Middle School.
English Club: Good after noon, Sir.
The headmaster: Good afternoon.
E.C: We are members of the Ten Petals Assaki
English Club. We are here to ask you, if you
please, some questions about Absenteeism in
our school, Assaki Middle School.
The headmaster: you are welcome. I hope I can
have answers to all your questions.
E.C: why students miss classes?
The headmaster: Among the reasons that let
some students miss their classes are: students
live far from school. There is not a school bus to
pick up students to and back from school.
E.C: what do you do in the cases of students who
miss classes more often?
The headmaster: Usually, we should send a
letter to the students’ parents, but it takes a lot
of time. So, we call the parents to inform them
about their children’s lack of discipline.
Interviewing the principal.
E.C: What is the difference between this year and last year’s
rate of absenteeism?
The principal: The percentage of absenteeism of this year is
very low compared to last year’s rate.
E.C: What do you think is the cause?
The principal: With the help of teachers, we always raise
awareness about the drawbacks of absenteeism. We also deal
with absent students more strictly. If a student does not
attend his/her classes regularly, we call his parents and
inform them.
E.C: Do you want to say something to the students on this
occasion?
The principal: of course! First, thank you for your efforts. I
advise students to respect their timetables.
E.C: Mr. the headmaster, please, a piece of advice to the
students.
The principal: Well, students should also respect their
teachers, the staff and school environment and be attentive
inside classes.
E.C: Thank you very much.

10. Environment
The environment is made up of the air we breathe, the sun, which gives us energy and heat and the water we drink. It
also consists of the plants which give us food, firewood and shade; the animals we see and hear; and the soil in which
we grow our food. It also includes the stones, hills, rivers, our houses and schools. All above combined make the
EARTH which is the mother Environment in a wider sense.
Water:
Water is essential for life. All living things depend on water. Plants need water to grow. We need water to live.
Animals and plants are made up of water to a large extent. About 70% of a human body is water and 90% of a
cabbage is water.
Two thirds of the surface of our planet ‘Earth’ is covered with water.
Many kinds of plants and animals live in and around water. They need clean water to live. When rubbish is in the
water, harmful germs grow which cause sickness to all living things in and around the water. We must always try to
keep our water clean.
Rivers and seas are a unique freshwater habitat. This means they provide a home for many plants and animals and
they are an important resource for people who live near them.
Animals and plants:
What is a plant good for? What uses do plants have?
• Plants take in carbon dioxide and give out oxygen. Animals and humans need oxygen to breathe. Plants give energy
when they are used as food. They offer shelter to animals. Plants such as flowers are grown for their beauty. They are
also used for firewood, construction and furniture. Some plants are grown for their fibre, like cotton. Other plants can
be used as medicine. Farmers depend on plants for money. Wild animals provide us with many products - food, and
skins. Most importantly we need the animals to keep the balance in nature. Wild animals are useful for the
development of a country. Wild animals are a beauty to see in their natural surroundings, and people from many
countries pay money to come and see them. National parks can attract tourists. We can protect the wild animals
through protecting their habitats and rearing domestic animals to avoid hunting of the wild ones.
Why should we save environment?
1. Global warming is a serious issue. The continuous emission of carbon dioxide by thermal power generating units is
the leading cause for the surge in greenhouse gases.
2. Natural resources are limited. If the natural resources such as oil, coal, etc. are used, one day the world may fall
short of these resources.
3. High-level of environmental pollution is detrimental for human and animal health.
4. Forests are fast depleting. It may cause soil erosion and drought situation.
5. Excessive use of pesticides and contamination of soil have negatively affected soil output. These fruits and
vegetables are not very healthy for human health.
How to save environment?
1. We should save drinking water. Water is a precious component of our environment.
2. We should never pollute water.
3. The waste products should be recycled to make new items.
4. There should be a zero tolerance policy towards deforestation.
5. We can make donations to NGOs that are engaged in saving the environment.
6. Safer environmental friendly car and vehicles, like bicycles should be used more often.
7. The use of environment unfriendly materials such as plastic should be discouraged.
8. The focus should entirely shift on renewable sources of energy like solar energy would help saving the environment
from global warming.

11. The sport of basketball is fun for any person young or old. Basketball is a
great way of exercise and a great way to have fun with friends and possibly
make some new ones. I love to watch the game. Basketball is a very
entertaining sport and can be played by anyone. Basketball has many positive
things about it, based on my opinion. Basketball is known as a good pastime
in many people’s eyes. But can also be seen as a profession for many others.
Basketball is in my opinion the best thing I can do with my friends while
burning a few calories. I see basketball is an easy way to have fun rather
than just sitting on the couch all day playing video games or watching
television. One reason I love basketball for is because you need only
yourself to play the game or you can play with teammates. I prefer to have
others to play with rather than just playing alone.
To me there is not only one word that I can describe basketball with.

12. Jurassic World is a film directed by Colin Trevorrow from San
Fransisco. A film of adventure, action and also thriller. I can say
that this one is my favourite film in 2015 because the special thing
in this movie is the creatures which are already extinct.
The actors were so great and excellent; they made the film close to
reality and their costumes were casual a little bit.
The music helps you to feel that you are part of the film because it
was perfect, music of adventure. It takes you to that Jurassic world
which is a new theme park built on the original site of Jurassic park.
Everything was going well until the park’s newest attraction, a
modified giant stealth, a killing machine that escaped containment
and goes on a killing spree.
It is an amazing and an interesting film because I like dinosaurs so
much and all the things that are about them.

The process of making Argan oil is hard. It needs hard work and time. In Assaki,
women do all the work. Traditionally, women collect the shells of Argan fruit under
the trees, crack them, and let them dry in open air. After that, they roast the kernels
of Argan. When they cool down, they grind them by traditional mills to get a brown
mash. The final step is to squeeze the mash by their hands then filter it to get pure
Argan oil. The left is used as food for their animals.
The following are steps with pictures that show the process of making Argan oil.

16. It’s possible
Think about those people right now
They feel afraid right and left
They feel scared high and low
Please think
They are our brothers and sisters
They need aid since years ago
They need us right now
Please think
And now I’m sure that they are suffering
They are living the life hardly
And I’m sure that we can help them
To help them is so easy
We can put them in the pot
If we think that is our job
We must start right now
We can make them happy
Yes we can just
We can save them from their burden
We can be helpful
It’s possible, It’s possible, It’s
possible, It’s possible

And you know that it’s very hard

Lisa was sad. She went to the temple to ask a monk for advice. She told him, "I don't
understand why my husband cheated on me even though I love him and care a lot
about him." The monk said nothing. He took out a piece of chocolate and told her to
eat it. When she finished, he said, "Is it good?" She replied, "Yes, it tastes good!"
The monk said, "Do you want more?" Lisa said, "Yes, of course!" And the monk
continued, "Now, do you know the answer of your question?" The woman said, "I
understand it now. You mean that men are greedy, and they always want more." The
monk replied, "No, I meant your husband left you because you are too fat!!”
