3. The Annunciation
Mary was chosen and prepared by God so
that, at her consent, she would conceive
and bear the Son of God, Jesus Christ, our
Redeemer. ‘Then Mary said: Here am
I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me
according to your word.’ (Luke 1:38)
4. The Visitation
Mary embraces Elizabeth as they reflect
together on how the Lord plans to help the
whole world through their children. ‘And
Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit
and exclaimed with a loud cry: Blessed are
you among women and blessed is the fruit
of our womb.’ (Luke 1:41-42)
5. The Birth of Jesus
St. Joseph gazes in wonder at the Blessed
Virgin Mary and at the glorious infant
Jesus. God has now entrusted both of
them to St. Joseph’s care. ‘Joseph … the
Child conceived in her is from the Holy
Spirit. She will bear a son, and you are to
name him Jesus, for he will save his people
from their sins.’ (Matthew 1:20-21)
6. The Presentation
Mary and Joseph take the Divine child to
the Temple, to present him to the Lord, in
fulfillment of the Law. They are greeted by
the prophetic words of Simeon and Anna.
‘Simeon said: My eyes have seen your
salvation … a light for revelation to the
Gentiles and for glory to your people
Israel.’ (Luke 2:30-32)
7. The Finding of the Child Jesus
in the Temple
When Mary and Joseph find Jesus, he
replies to his mother’s questions by
explaining the whole purpose of his life.
‘Did you not know that I must be about my
Father’s interests?’ (Luke 2:49)
8. The Agony in the Garden
And He withdrew from them about a
stone’s throw, and He knelt down and
began to pray, saying, ‘Father, if You are
willing, remove this cup from Me; yet not
My will, but Yours be done.’ (Luke 22:41-
46)
9. The Scourging at the Pillar
Wishing to satisfy the crowd, Pilate relased
Barabbas for them, and after having Jesus
scourged, he handed Him over to be
crucified. (Mark 15:15)
10. The Crowning with Thorns
They dressed Him up in purple, and after
twisting a crown of thorns, they put it on
Him; and they began to acclaim
Him, ‘Hail, King of the Jews!’ (Mark 15:16-
20a)
11. The Carrying of the Cross
After they had mocked Him, they took the
purple robe off Him and put His own
garments on Him. And they led Him out to
crucify Him. (Mark 15:20b-22)
12. The Crucifixtion
and Death of Jesus
They took Jesus, therefore, and He went
out, bearing His own cross, to the place
called the Place of a Skull, which is called
in Hebrew, Golgotha. There they crucified
Him, and with Him two other men, one on
either side, and Jesus in between. (John
19:17-30)
13. The Resurrection
Entering the tomb, they saw a young man
sitting at the right, wearing a white robe;
and they were amazed. And he said to
them, ‘Do no be amazed; you are looking
Jesus the Nazarene, who has been
crucified. He has risen; He is not here;
behold, here is the place where they laid
Him. (Mark 16:1-8)
14. The Ascension
So then, when the Lord Jesus had spoken
to them, He was received up into heaven
and sat down at the right hand of God.
(Mark 16:19-20)
15. The Descent of the Holy Spirit
And there appeared to them tongues as of
fire distributing themselves, and they
rested on each one of the,. And they were
all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to
speak with other tongues as the Spirit was
giving them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)
16. The Assumption
‘If I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come again and receive you to Myself, that
were I am, there you may be also. (John
14:3)
17. The Crowning of Our Lady,
Queen of Heaven
A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman
clothed with the sun, and the moon under
her feet, and on her head a crown of
twelve stars. (Revelation 12:1)
