Who Are You As A Writer? Essay
When presented with the question, "who are you as a writer?", I was speechless at first. But after
thinking about it, I realized who I am as a writer has been influenced by so many different
sponsors throughout my life and there was not a short, concrete answer. Brandt mentions that
"literacy is sponsored by people, institutions, and circumstances that both make it possible for a
person to become literate and shape the way the person actually acquires literacy." (Brandt 43)
My attitude towards writing has been influenced by teachers, both negatively and positively, by
my mother, and by academic assignments over the years. My answer to the question can only be
answered by a narrative of my writing life. I have convinced myself that I am a terrible writer,
and when presented with a writing assignment, I get anxious instantly. I see writing as a burden
and a huge obstacle that gets placed in my life. Academic writing is not fun, but something I
value due to the fact that we are a grade driven society. When writing, I write to the guidelines in
order to receive points for the requested criteria. The reason being, I gave up on expressing my
own ideas because I had been shut down by so many teachers throughout my education. I tried to
write down what came to my mind and put my own twist on things, but that was not the "right"
way to write papers. In order to make both my teachers and my grades happy, I wrote what they
wanted to hear, and even then I was not to the level they

My Writing Style Of My Handwriting
Ever since I discovered that there were different styles of handwriting outside the realm of first grade
chicken–scratch, I have been fascinated with refining my own. For me, handwriting has always been
another thing that has set me apart. While my handwriting has always been neat, it has never been
the physical handwriting that has set me apart, but rather the way that I use it.
In the age of the "digital native," longhand writing has become as obsolete as long division upon the
invention of the calculator. This fact made it all the more peculiar when, in eighth grade, I turned in
a handwritten draft of my five–page speech for my public speaking class. In a pile of neatly typed
essays, my hand–printed speech on lined paper was the obvious...show more content...
It wasn't necessarily out of necessity as much as pure habit. As my peers quickly typed up their
notes and schoolwork, it was hard for me to feel like my habit wasn't setting me back. When I
unsuccessfully tried to give it up in favor of the more efficient way of typing, I quickly
discovered that handwriting allows me a mental clarity that typing on a keyboard does not. When
I am writing by hand, I reflect on each letter, word, and sentence before I move on, rather than
being more concerned about what I am going to say next while typing on a computer. I think this
is because as I write down each letter, and the letters turn into words, sentences and ideas, I am
present in a way that I cannot be when listening to the clicking of a keyboard because there is no
screen in between me and what I am trying to write but instead just a pen and piece of paper.
Eventually, I realized that what I gave in effort to my work by taking the time to handwrite I got
back in overall quality. I no longer resented my tedious practice of handwriting everything because
I learned that it was much more than just an obnoxious habit or display of perfectionism. As soon
as I understood that my process, although at times tedious, is what works best for me, I allowed
myself to accept it for what it is. As they say, "good things take time." They take effort,

Anne Boleyn Essay examples
On Friday, May 19, 1536, Anne Boleyn, former Queen of England, was executed for high treason
and adultery, her head severed from her body by an expert swordsman, the only concession given
her by her ex–husband King Henry VIII. How, in so short a time, had the woman that Henry had
defied the religious tradition of England for, divorcing his wife and changing the history of religion
in his country, whom he pursued relentlessly for years, fallen so far, so quickly? To understand one
must examine Henry's desperate need for a male heir, understand the politics of the time, and the
personality of Anne Boleyn herself. Anne's involvement with religion, politics, foreign affairs and
fashion are still being seen centuries after her death. Filled...show more content...
In Anne's adolescent years, she reached the minimum age of "Fille D'Honneur" and moved into
the court of Archduchess Margaret Fraser in France where her love of fashion was sparked. After
serving on the Archduchess' court, Anne went on to be in the court of Mary Tudor, sister of
King Henry VIII and wife of King Louis XII. Because of Anne's high profile position, she had to
keep with the latest French fashion trends such as the French hood and dress styles. When Mary
Tudor returned to England, Anne decided to stay in France for the next six to seven years and
continued her education in the ways of the French court. The young Anne grew into a
delightfully charming young lady, blessed with all the social graces a courtier at that time could
possibly hope for. During that time King Henry came to France to meet the French King, Francis
I, and it was here that King Henry most likely first met Anne. People questioned what Henry saw
in Anne because she was not considered beautiful by the era's standards. Anne had long dark hair,
dim olive colored skin and large dark brown eyes that to some, appeared black. Her multiple
"imperfections" that so greatly impacted her style were questioned by Henry's courtiers. It was said
that she had an extra finger on one of her hands and a large mole on her neck that she would try to
hide. She long–sleeved dresses and a black ribbon around her neck to hide an unsightly mole.

My Experience In English Writing
English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to
advance their knowledge. Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has
created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why
English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in
America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take
advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English
IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome
obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there
are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was
something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to
organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class
was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write
about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had
many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it
flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around
more then I should have and this became a problem. I learned

How Does an Author's Life Influence Their Writing?
Authors have inspired and created some of the most remarkable ideas that can change just one
life or many; however, these authors must have had inspiration themselves. An author's life
influences who they are and what they do, writing. Edgar Allan Poe was a unique author who
wrote numerous dark, mysterious works, such as "The Tell Tale Heart," that were inspired by his
life full of sorrow and despair. Comparable to Poe, S.E. Hinton's writing was affected by her life of
being different from the world and even her friends, which led to her writing about a unique
character who stands out in The Outsiders. Lastly, Elie Wiesel is alike to the previous authors. His
life, burdened by ceaseless pain that he bore through, reflects in his writing in Night. Anybody's life
can change from just one significant moment that they have lived, no matter who they are or what
they do. Edgar Allan Poe, S.E. Hinton, and Elie Wiesel had been just average people who have
challenged events in their lives which who used those events to write.
Edgar Allan Poe's writing had certainly been impacted by his life. Poe was born to his mother,
Eliza Poe, in 1809. However, his alcoholic father, David Poe Jr., had left him. His mother later
died of Tuberculosis when he was still young. Although he had joined the Allan Family, this absence
of his parents brought him to be lonely. His foster father, John Allan, raised Poe as if he was his
own, but Poe and his

Essay on Writing Experience
My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the
basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things
like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the
future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers,
documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I
predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college. Writing in the past started in
kindergarten. My teacher taught me how to write my name over and over until I could write it with
no errors. All through elementary my teachers taught me...show more content...
I need to learn to quit thinking as much on what I want to write about and how to write about a topic
and just starting jotting stuff down in outline form as it comes to mind. Run–ons and fragments I
need to be able to spot and fix right away or I really need to not have any in my papers at all. My
goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or
have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge
to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays,
and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in
my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to
do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex
education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will
have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I
can compare to other sources. Dictating to the doctor means that I will need to write properly so
that he understands what I am saying. Other nurses will have to be able to understand what I am
talking about by my writing skills when doing shift changes. I will have to be very precise so that
other nurses will not

My Writing Experience
Reading and writing has always created a sense of understanding for me in my art. Reading in the
literal sense is a way that we understand text or symbols in our minds which in turn create meaning.
Writing also in a literal sense is our way of communicating our knowledge and emotions to others
through symbols in text. The human experience for all people includes communication and through
reading and writing this experience is created. From the beginning of this course, my only prior
experience with reading and writing were high school level course over literature and reading. I had
an average level of rhetoric, reading, writing and language overall however, understanding the
significance of these subjects was never put forth in such a way until I took this course. I discovered
through this course that reading is a combination of not only our "visual information" but also our
"nonvisual information". My comprehension of reading has evolved from reading...show more

I feel that organization is both a strength and a weakness in my writing. Free writing is something
that helped me gain a better sense of my ideas and through this I was able to create more structured
ideas. However, the formation of a structurally sound essay that contains writing that flows was
extremely difficult for myself. Fluidity was a challenge throughout my time in this course, but is
was also something that created a better voice in my writing. The understanding of reading and
writing in this course was extremely meaningful for me and made a huge impact on my writing
overall. Writing motivates me and inspires me in my own work to create stories and share with
others what I feel is memorable and should be shared. Although it may never be something perfect,
writing is something I wish to continue improving on and creating in order to share with

The Importance Of Ancient Literature
Essentially when we think about studying literature, especially literature that is centuries old,
thoughts such as "why is this important or how does this relate to me?" arise. Although someone
is not going to relate to every piece of writing they read, literature still has plenty to offer. For
example, take the course textbook; The Norton Anthology of World Literature. All the excerpts in
the book are thousands of years old, so yes, it is possible that one could read the entire text and
not relate to single printed word on a personal level. However, there is also the historical context to
consider. Ancient literature is almost like a door to the past or in more modern context, a time
machine; as it offers us a way to study cultures long...show more content...
Conscious finally returned to Lu and lived out his life as a teacher, gathering a considerable
following. The Analects were not written by the master, but by his disciples several generations
after his passing. The Analects discuss topics such as, filial piety (respect for one's elders),
government, and the importance of self–improvement. A prevalent theme throughout several of
them is the importance of education and the pursuit of knowledge. Here are a few examples: "In
the old days, people studied to improve themselves. Now they study in order to impress others"
(14.24). Meaning, one should study to enhance their life, not to impress colleagues. "Learning is
like a chase in which, as you fail to catch up, you fear to lose what you have already gained" (8.17).
There is a plethora of topics to research and analyze, thus it is not humanly possible to know or
understand everything. One should utilize education to enrich their life, not to compete with others.
When studying, one should expand upon current knowledge, instead of attempting to learn an
unfamiliar topic. As Confucius says to Zigong, "Do you think that I am someone who learns a lot of
things and then stores them all up?" Confucius responds with, "I have one single thread on which to
string them all." In other words, when striving to gain new knowledge, relate it to knowledge already
attained by "stringing" everything together. Relating new information to old can also help one

My Writing Essay
My Writing
In the past four years, I have written many papers for various classes, enjoying some and others
having to choke out words to write down. In this memo I will describe my writing projects and
how they made me become a better writer, and how they will continue to help develop me into a
becoming a more prosperous writer.
What I Really Learned in English 100
Well as a recent pupil of the Great McFadden I want to do all that I can to be on his good side, for he
said that if I go one mile to meet him, he will go two miles to meet me, which seems more that fair.

Having taken many writing classes I have learned many things about writing. I enjoy writing and
can often write many pages about things that I am interested in. I know that I have more learning to
do about writing, and hopefully in the next couple weeks my knowledge of writing will have
expanded and my writing will have improved.
My Experience With Writing Arguments
I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a research
paper with the intent to change people's minds on a certain subject. I remember researching for
weeks in the library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for enough
information to write a ten–page paper. The writing process of the paper took several weeks but
when I had finished, all the hard work was worth the effort. I learned many things from that course
such as that you need to search for all the information you can because it is better to have too much
information than not enough. Also that course taught me many things about making references to
the authors of the articles I used for my paper. I remember writing out note card after note card and
keeping all the necessary information about each book or magazine. That course taught me to
become a better writer and to respect how much detail really goes into a research paper like I had
written. Other than that, I have not really had much experience in

Ancient Egyptian Writings In Ancient Egypt
The ancient Egyptians created writing around 3100 B.C.E In Egypt the writing was called
Hieroglyphs. Hieroglyphs was used for religious meanings and lasted forever. It was used on
temples and in tombs. Since Hieroglyphs was very complicated they came up with an easier
writing called hieratic. Sometimes the Egyptians wrote from different ways we do today. They
write from right to left and top to bottom. Students in scribe school took hours for copying down
hundreds of signs perfectly to please their teachers. Since this was very hard work, some students
skipped school and got in trouble for skipping out of doing their homework. The Ancient
Egyptians thought it was important to keep record of their government and religion. They
created scripts to record their information. Temples were the homes of the gods and goddesses.
Walls were designed with pictures and writing that showed the respect for the goddess and gods
from the Pharaoh. Priests who worked in the temples were scribes. After scribes have finished
school one of their usual first jobs would be working in the fields counting crops and animals.
Writing was one of the many important parts of tomb decoration. Scribes wrote spells on tomb
walls before they were carved. Some craftsmen sometimes couldn't read what they were carving in
the walls so one missed line would mean the spell wouldn't work. When the egyptians went to battle
they used writing to communicate with each other. Military leaders were trained as Scribes so

How My Writing Has Changed Essay
My writing styles have changed drastically over the past four years of high school. This memo will
explain how my writing has changed and how my knowledge of writing has improved.
Aspects of My Writing during High School
During my English courses throughout high school, I learned many things from writing simple
journals, research papers, and a single term paper. During high school, I was laid back and
procrastinated for much of my work. During the latter part of high school when I wrote my term
paper my senior year, I found out that working a little every night writing a few paragraphs helped
me out greatly. I was not just throwing something together just to get the grade and the paper
finished. I spent time on the paper and...show more content...
I do this so the information is true, and also in order from which events have occurred. When I
wrote my term paper my senior year I was well organized. I was required to write about an event
in history. I chose India Uprising of 1877 as the topic of my paper. This topic was not interesting at
all, but I chose to write about it. When I finished writing my thesis and outline, I wrote note cards
about the different topics, which allowed me to gather all my information and organize it in which
different events occurred. When I was finished with the paper, it sounded and read consistently and it
all flowed together.
How These Experiences Prepared Me for College Writing
I have written many different types of papers for all of my classes throughout high school. For
my science classes, I have written several labs in the form of essays. Writing the essays was
different for me because I did not really know that science had much to do with writing. It took me
a while to gather all the information I needed to finish my lab assignments. Writing lab reports will
definitely help me in my science courses in the next four years.
The journals I have written came from my four years of high school English. Everyday I came to
class there would be a topic on the board. I took five minutes each day to write about the given
topic. It was brainstorming and giving our input on whatever the topic was. I think

Essay About My English Class
I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was
already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even
more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I
finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of
English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be
where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on
the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths
that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an
English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do
that. I took American History and we would have to write...show more content...
I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your
own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I

technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I
was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could
use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went
there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I
used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even
go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident
as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that

Experience Of Writing
Writing, it has it's good, and it's bad. Regardless of who you are however, you have had an
experience with it. College, High School, Middle School, etc. We all have written something at
some point in our lives. Personally I haven't been exposed to massive amounts of writing outside
of school although, I do enjoy writing songs. There's many different types from Novels, Poetry,
Music, all the way to texting. Most people I feel enjoy writing and as do I. I enjoy writing for a few
reasons,One. It allows me to relieve stress or anything on my mind and keep sane. I have a
journal to keep track of days for later memories and I add to it every day. I have a few experiences
worth sharing as well. One of my first experiences seriously writing is when, I was in Highschool,
and had to write a speech. I spent four days writing this speech. Although it wasn't what you would

The Writing Process Essay
The Writing Process
Writing a paper on the writing process is pretty hard. The writing process is different from one
person to another. You come across questions like, 'What exactly is the writing process?'; and
'Must you follow one persons writing process if yours is different?'; This is where I came across
the answer to my questions, write however you wish to write. If one person likes free write first
and another person likes to write a draft first, let them do how they please.
The writing process is something that you figure out yourself as you go through school. I personally
think that is why they make us take English for so many years. Through the years, I found that some

I don't agree with him. The only way for someone to improve his or her writing is if a peer reads
over it and explains what could be done to improve it.
In The Maker's Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscript, Murray says, 'Writers must learn to be their
own worst enemy'; (Murray 87). He is trying to say that when it comes to editing, you must be able
to accept criticism from others and be suspicious of it. Just because they say that you should
rearrange that paragraph doesn't necessarily mean you have to. The way you wrote the paragraph
could be in your own voice.
Your papers should be filled with your voice. Voice is what makes your writing personal. But your
voice could be different depending on what you write about. I would put a lot more of my feelings
in a paper about food, than a paper about how the polar ice caps are melting.
Revising and rewriting a paper is a common step in the writing process. Personally, I think your
paper would be crap if you skipped these steps but I'm sure someone has done it before. Every
writer has revised and rewritten a paper. Do you think that Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in
one shot? I don't think so.
In conclusion, writing is up to the writer. If the writer decides to follow the formal writing process,
then that's their choice. Nothing should be forced when it comes to writing. Then the writer does not
put out their best work possible. Thank you for reading my

and, just as the statistics suggest, I was born with a very low weight; just barely four pounds. A
study on nearly 6,000 children found that children from single parent homes had more physical and
mental health problems than children who lived with two married parents. Additionally, boys in
single parent homes were found to have more illness than girls in single–parent homes (Hong).
Furthermore, three out of four teenage suicides occur in households where a parent has been absent
(Elshtain). This is a disturbing number and should not be taken lightly. (Chapin) Education is greatly
impacted among children with mothers only. In studies involving over 25,000 children using
nationally representative data sets, children who lived with only their mother had lower grade point
averages, lower college aspirations, poor attendance records, and much higher drop–out rates than
students who lived with both parents (McLanahan). McLanahan also states in her book that
fatherless children are twice as likely to drop out of school. These figures all lead to the most
important statistic–children without fathers are five times less likely to attend college (U.S.

Write An Essay On The Beatitudes
I want start by clarifying that I will strive to be as apolitical as possible and hopefully not start a
separate debate over political or religious ideology – I am not taking a side. I am also cherry–picking
rather than picking a specific Beatitude – and the reason for this is because I believe elements of
each apply and go together with others – interchangeable in today's context.
Having said all that, I believe that we human beings have a responsibility to our fellow man, our
earth, and our God (not in any specific order and not exhaustive), and I see the Beatitudes as guiding
principles to be more loving, forgiving, demonstrate humility, giving of one's self, and merciful;

When leaders have opposing or tempestuous passions – conflict arises rather than peace. So, as a
leader – being a peacemaker requires being able to forgive some personal transgressions or
persecutions and summon the moral spirt to rise above petty revenge or vanity. Not every society
believes in the same God or shares the same ideology (monotheistic and polytheistic) – however,
most have a sense of what their divine being is/should be like and how followers should act – and I

The company's creams inventory remains constant because it does not follow a trend in

Writing An Exemplary Essay
1. Which parts of your essay do you feel most closely meet the expectations for exemplary writing
as described in the essay rubric and why?
I feel that the two strongest parts of my essay are my thesis and certain parts of my closing
paragraphs. My focus, or thesis, most closely meet the expectations because it offers significant
insight that is precise and creatively stated. It also addresses the content requirements and is fully
supported throughout the essay. I like the wording I used for the thesis, and to me it's inspirational.
Secondly, I think that certain parts of my closing are strong, particularly the lessons in perseverance
that I learned from Seth. My grammar and mechanics have fulfilled the definition of exemplary in
the essay rubric as well.
2. Which parts of your essay could use improvement, and why?
While there are many parts of my essay that could use improvement, I am only going to focus on a
couple. In paragraph four it feels as though I am rambling a bit about the details of the Domino
Project story. I do think that how the project played out is important, I just...show more content...
Specifically, when moving from paragraph five to paragraph six, besides using the word
"another" twice in a row, it seems forced, like I am jumping into the next idea. How can I clearly
transition without sounding automated? Also, the last sentence in paragraph five sounds like I
just threw it in there. Should I take it out completely or rewrite it? I don't like how the last two
sentences of my essay flow, although I really like the wording I used. How can I mix or add to
these ideas to create more flow for the ending? Another thing I can improve upon is my style or
voice. Sometimes I can sound a little sterile. How can I show more easygoing flow while retaining
the professional feel of the essay? The audience I chose is future employers so I want to sound
intelligent but not

To inspire and influence others, a leader must have many skills and abilities. As motivational
speaker Jim Rohn, states, " the challenge of leadership is to be strong, but not rude; be kind, but not
weak; be bold, but not bully; be thoughtful, but not lazy; be humble, but not timid; be proud, but not
arrogant; have humor, but without folly." (2010) Moving an entire group of individuals toward a
singular goal is a considerable undertaking. Without effective communication skills and a clear
vision of what needs to be accomplished, one will feel like they are trying to herd cats rather than
leading. Effective communication encompasses many concepts. For a leader to be effective, one
must be able to build relationships between different...show more content...
The team must be able to believe in the message presented. If there has been a pattern of initial
enthusiasm for projects, yet no follow through by the one presenting the latest and greatest, there
will be little interest in the any project they propose. Once a leader lacks integrity, they will not
garner the support needed to reach success. No one wants to follow those they cannot believe in,
nor trust. The group will not feel obligated to put themselves out for a project that they know will
lack the leadership needed to reach fruition. Team members who feel confident in their leader's
abilities and knowledge are more likely to trust those in leadership positions and actively work to
reach the set goals (Zenger & Folkman, 2004). For a leader to promote a trusting relationship,
they must give credit when due to others and take responsibility for any failures. Bestselling
author and speaker on leadership, John C Maxwell (2011) stated, "A leader is one who knows the
way, goes the way, and shows the way." A visionary leader has a clear picture of what they want to
accomplish, and what will be needed to be done in order to reach the goals set. Their original ideas
take into account changes needed for the future and what improvements should be made on current
projects to make them more viable and have the ability to reach even higher success. This includes
ensuring team members have the resources needed to

  • 1. Who Are You As A Writer? Essay When presented with the question, "who are you as a writer?", I was speechless at first. But after thinking about it, I realized who I am as a writer has been influenced by so many different sponsors throughout my life and there was not a short, concrete answer. Brandt mentions that "literacy is sponsored by people, institutions, and circumstances that both make it possible for a person to become literate and shape the way the person actually acquires literacy." (Brandt 43) My attitude towards writing has been influenced by teachers, both negatively and positively, by my mother, and by academic assignments over the years. My answer to the question can only be answered by a narrative of my writing life. I have convinced myself that I am a terrible writer, and when presented with a writing assignment, I get anxious instantly. I see writing as a burden and a huge obstacle that gets placed in my life. Academic writing is not fun, but something I value due to the fact that we are a grade driven society. When writing, I write to the guidelines in order to receive points for the requested criteria. The reason being, I gave up on expressing my own ideas because I had been shut down by so many teachers throughout my education. I tried to write down what came to my mind and put my own twist on things, but that was not the "right" way to write papers. In order to make both my teachers and my grades happy, I wrote what they wanted to hear, and even then I was not to the level they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. My Writing Style Of My Handwriting Ever since I discovered that there were different styles of handwriting outside the realm of first grade chicken–scratch, I have been fascinated with refining my own. For me, handwriting has always been another thing that has set me apart. While my handwriting has always been neat, it has never been the physical handwriting that has set me apart, but rather the way that I use it. In the age of the "digital native," longhand writing has become as obsolete as long division upon the invention of the calculator. This fact made it all the more peculiar when, in eighth grade, I turned in a handwritten draft of my five–page speech for my public speaking class. In a pile of neatly typed essays, my hand–printed speech on lined paper was the obvious...show more content... It wasn't necessarily out of necessity as much as pure habit. As my peers quickly typed up their notes and schoolwork, it was hard for me to feel like my habit wasn't setting me back. When I unsuccessfully tried to give it up in favor of the more efficient way of typing, I quickly discovered that handwriting allows me a mental clarity that typing on a keyboard does not. When I am writing by hand, I reflect on each letter, word, and sentence before I move on, rather than being more concerned about what I am going to say next while typing on a computer. I think this is because as I write down each letter, and the letters turn into words, sentences and ideas, I am present in a way that I cannot be when listening to the clicking of a keyboard because there is no screen in between me and what I am trying to write but instead just a pen and piece of paper. Eventually, I realized that what I gave in effort to my work by taking the time to handwrite I got back in overall quality. I no longer resented my tedious practice of handwriting everything because I learned that it was much more than just an obnoxious habit or display of perfectionism. As soon as I understood that my process, although at times tedious, is what works best for me, I allowed myself to accept it for what it is. As they say, "good things take time." They take effort, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Anne Boleyn Essay examples On Friday, May 19, 1536, Anne Boleyn, former Queen of England, was executed for high treason and adultery, her head severed from her body by an expert swordsman, the only concession given her by her ex–husband King Henry VIII. How, in so short a time, had the woman that Henry had defied the religious tradition of England for, divorcing his wife and changing the history of religion in his country, whom he pursued relentlessly for years, fallen so far, so quickly? To understand one must examine Henry's desperate need for a male heir, understand the politics of the time, and the personality of Anne Boleyn herself. Anne's involvement with religion, politics, foreign affairs and fashion are still being seen centuries after her death. Filled...show more content... In Anne's adolescent years, she reached the minimum age of "Fille D'Honneur" and moved into the court of Archduchess Margaret Fraser in France where her love of fashion was sparked. After serving on the Archduchess' court, Anne went on to be in the court of Mary Tudor, sister of King Henry VIII and wife of King Louis XII. Because of Anne's high profile position, she had to keep with the latest French fashion trends such as the French hood and dress styles. When Mary Tudor returned to England, Anne decided to stay in France for the next six to seven years and continued her education in the ways of the French court. The young Anne grew into a delightfully charming young lady, blessed with all the social graces a courtier at that time could possibly hope for. During that time King Henry came to France to meet the French King, Francis I, and it was here that King Henry most likely first met Anne. People questioned what Henry saw in Anne because she was not considered beautiful by the era's standards. Anne had long dark hair, dim olive colored skin and large dark brown eyes that to some, appeared black. Her multiple "imperfections" that so greatly impacted her style were questioned by Henry's courtiers. It was said that she had an extra finger on one of her hands and a large mole on her neck that she would try to hide. She long–sleeved dresses and a black ribbon around her neck to hide an unsightly mole. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. My Experience In English Writing English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to advance their knowledge. Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Which is why English is one of the four subjects that is required to be taught in almost every school district in America including mine. I began taking English from a young age which allowed me to take advanced placement English IV my senior year at Tupelo High School. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around more then I should have and this became a problem. I learned Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. How Does an Author's Life Influence Their Writing? Authors have inspired and created some of the most remarkable ideas that can change just one life or many; however, these authors must have had inspiration themselves. An author's life influences who they are and what they do, writing. Edgar Allan Poe was a unique author who wrote numerous dark, mysterious works, such as "The Tell Tale Heart," that were inspired by his life full of sorrow and despair. Comparable to Poe, S.E. Hinton's writing was affected by her life of being different from the world and even her friends, which led to her writing about a unique character who stands out in The Outsiders. Lastly, Elie Wiesel is alike to the previous authors. His life, burdened by ceaseless pain that he bore through, reflects in his writing in Night. Anybody's life can change from just one significant moment that they have lived, no matter who they are or what they do. Edgar Allan Poe, S.E. Hinton, and Elie Wiesel had been just average people who have challenged events in their lives which who used those events to write. Edgar Allan Poe's writing had certainly been impacted by his life. Poe was born to his mother, Eliza Poe, in 1809. However, his alcoholic father, David Poe Jr., had left him. His mother later died of Tuberculosis when he was still young. Although he had joined the Allan Family, this absence of his parents brought him to be lonely. His foster father, John Allan, raised Poe as if he was his own, but Poe and his Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay on Writing Experience My Writing Experiences My experiences in writing have been minimal. I have only learned the basics of writing, like putting together sentences, forming paragraphs with sentences, and things like that. Since I have been taking college English, I can tell my writing has improved a lot. In the future, I hope to be able to improve tremendously at writing essays, paragraphs, research papers, documents, and stories so that I have very little to no errors with drafting and final products. I predict I will be a well rounded writer when I graduate from college. Writing in the past started in kindergarten. My goals are to write papers and not have to reassure myself that maybe I need to do more research or have more data or even have to rethink my whole topic over. I would love to have the knowledge to be a tutor someday and teach other people how to properly write papers, paragraphs, essays, and maybe even books. To have excellent skills in writing will definitely be a great advantage in my nursing profession. In nursing, I will have to do lots of charting on my patients. I will have to do health presentations on various subjects such as exercising, how our society eats, and sex education if I want to be a course instructor. Researching information on all of those topics I will have to make sure I do an excellent job on and collect accurate information and statistics so that I can compare to other sources. • 7. My Writing Experience Reading and writing has always created a sense of understanding for me in my art. Reading in the literal sense is a way that we understand text or symbols in our minds which in turn create meaning. Writing also in a literal sense is our way of communicating our knowledge and emotions to others through symbols in text. The human experience for all people includes communication and through reading and writing this experience is created. From the beginning of this course, my only prior experience with reading and writing were high school level course over literature and reading. I had an average level of rhetoric, reading, writing and language overall however, understanding the significance of these subjects was never put forth in such a way until I took this course. Fluidity was a challenge throughout my time in this course, but is was also something that created a better voice in my writing. The understanding of reading and writing in this course was extremely meaningful for me and made a huge impact on my writing overall. • 8. The Importance Of Ancient Literature Essentially when we think about studying literature, especially literature that is centuries old, thoughts such as "why is this important or how does this relate to me?" arise. Although someone is not going to relate to every piece of writing they read, literature still has plenty to offer. For example, take the course textbook; The Norton Anthology of World Literature. All the excerpts in the book are thousands of years old, so yes, it is possible that one could read the entire text and not relate to single printed word on a personal level. However, there is also the historical context to consider. Ancient literature is almost like a door to the past or in more modern context, a time machine; as it offers us a way to study cultures long...show more content... Conscious finally returned to Lu and lived out his life as a teacher, gathering a considerable following. The Analects were not written by the master, but by his disciples several generations after his passing. The Analects discuss topics such as, filial piety (respect for one's elders), government, and the importance of self–improvement. A prevalent theme throughout several of them is the importance of education and the pursuit of knowledge. Here are a few examples: "In the old days, people studied to improve themselves. Now they study in order to impress others" (14.24). Meaning, one should study to enhance their life, not to impress colleagues. "Learning is like a chase in which, as you fail to catch up, you fear to lose what you have already gained" (8.17). There is a plethora of topics to research and analyze, thus it is not humanly possible to know or understand everything. One should utilize education to enrich their life, not to compete with others. When studying, one should expand upon current knowledge, instead of attempting to learn an unfamiliar topic. As Confucius says to Zigong, "Do you think that I am someone who learns a lot of things and then stores them all up?" Confucius responds with, "I have one single thread on which to string them all." In other words, when striving to gain new knowledge, relate it to knowledge already attained by "stringing" everything together. Relating new information to old can also help one improve upon Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In this memo I will describe my writing projects and how they made me become a better writer, and how they will continue to help develop me into a becoming a more prosperous writer. What I Really Learned in English 100 Well as a recent pupil of the Great McFadden I want to do all that I can to be on his good side, for he said that if I go one mile to meet him, he will go two miles to meet me, which seems more that fair. Having taken many writing classes I have learned many things about writing. I enjoy writing and can often write many pages about things that I am interested in. I know that I have more learning to do about writing, and hopefully in the next couple weeks my knowledge of writing will have expanded and my writing will have improved. My Experience With Writing Arguments I am unaware of any writing arguments. The only thing I can really think of is writing a research paper with the intent to change people's minds on a certain subject. I remember researching for weeks in the library, looking through magazine after magazine. I had searched for enough information to write a ten–page paper. The writing process of the paper took several weeks but when I had finished, all the hard work was worth the effort. I learned many things from that course such as that you need to search for all the information you can because it is better to have too much information than not enough. Also that course taught me many things about making references to the authors of the articles I used for my paper. I remember writing out note card after note card and keeping all the necessary information about each book or magazine. That course taught me to become a better writer and to respect how much detail really goes into a research paper like I had written. Other than that, I have not really had much experience in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Ancient Egyptian Writings In Ancient Egypt The ancient Egyptians created writing around 3100 B.C.E In Egypt the writing was called Hieroglyphs. Hieroglyphs was used for religious meanings and lasted forever. It was used on temples and in tombs. Since Hieroglyphs was very complicated they came up with an easier writing called hieratic. Sometimes the Egyptians wrote from different ways we do today. They write from right to left and top to bottom. Students in scribe school took hours for copying down hundreds of signs perfectly to please their teachers. Since this was very hard work, some students skipped school and got in trouble for skipping out of doing their homework. The Ancient Egyptians thought it was important to keep record of their government and religion. They created scripts to record their information. Temples were the homes of the gods and goddesses. Walls were designed with pictures and writing that showed the respect for the goddess and gods from the Pharaoh. Priests who worked in the temples were scribes. After scribes have finished school one of their usual first jobs would be working in the fields counting crops and animals. Writing was one of the many important parts of tomb decoration. Scribes wrote spells on tomb walls before they were carved. Some craftsmen sometimes couldn't read what they were carving in the walls so one missed line would mean the spell wouldn't work. When the egyptians went to battle they used writing to communicate with each other. Military leaders were trained as Scribes so Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. How My Writing Has Changed Essay My writing styles have changed drastically over the past four years of high school. This memo will explain how my writing has changed and how my knowledge of writing has improved. Aspects of My Writing during High School During my English courses throughout high school, I learned many things from writing simple journals, research papers, and a single term paper. During high school, I was laid back and procrastinated for much of my work. During the latter part of high school when I wrote my term paper my senior year, I found out that working a little every night writing a few paragraphs helped me out greatly. I was not just throwing something together just to get the grade and the paper finished. I spent time on the paper and...show more content... I do this so the information is true, and also in order from which events have occurred. When I wrote my term paper my senior year I was well organized. I was required to write about an event in history. I chose India Uprising of 1877 as the topic of my paper. This topic was not interesting at all, but I chose to write about it. When I finished writing my thesis and outline, I wrote note cards about the different topics, which allowed me to gather all my information and organize it in which different events occurred. When I was finished with the paper, it sounded and read consistently and it all flowed together. How These Experiences Prepared Me for College Writing I have written many different types of papers for all of my classes throughout high school. For my science classes, I have written several labs in the form of essays. Writing the essays was different for me because I did not really know that science had much to do with writing. It took me a while to gather all the information I needed to finish my lab assignments. Writing lab reports will definitely help me in my science courses in the next four years. The journals I have written came from my four years of high school English. Everyday I came to class there would be a topic on the board. I took five minutes each day to write about the given topic. It was brainstorming and giving our input on whatever the topic was. I think Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Essay About My English Class I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had. When I first started college I did not know what to expect with an English class. I liked writing about topics that interested me, but high school did not allow me to do that. I took American History and we would have to write...show more content... I learned many techniques from my professor. He helped me realize that it is okay to have your own opinion as long as you back it up. He showed me that I am an author when I did not think I was. He also told us to read our essays out loud when we proofread, and I always did this technique before submitting all my essays. I can remember having to write my first essay and I was scared, because I felt like I had to get a good grade. I started thinking about what tools I could use to help me, and I decided to go to The Learning Center to help with my essay. When I went there they would make edits to my essay and then explain what I should change. The tutor noticed I used multiple choppy sentences and commas in spots there should not be. Sometimes I would even go twice to make sure I did not miss any minor mistakes. Going there helped me feel more confident as a writer and I learned from my mistakes. I had many helpful techniques from multiple people that shaped me into the writer I am Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 13. Experience Of Writing Writing, it has it's good, and it's bad. Regardless of who you are however, you have had an experience with it. College, High School, Middle School, etc. We all have written something at some point in our lives. Personally I haven't been exposed to massive amounts of writing outside of school although, I do enjoy writing songs. There's many different types from Novels, Poetry, Music, all the way to texting. Most people I feel enjoy writing and as do I. I enjoy writing for a few reasons,One. It allows me to relieve stress or anything on my mind and keep sane. I have a journal to keep track of days for later memories and I add to it every day. I have a few experiences worth sharing as well. One of my first experiences seriously writing is when, I was in Highschool, and had to write a speech. I spent four days writing this speech. Although it wasn't what you would call outstandingly fun. The speech was for my graduation on the last day of school BSEP. BSEP was a project all seniors had to complete and pass to graduate. I have been out of school for two years since that experience....show more content... I began writing songs about a year ago. The drive really came out of nowhere I wasn't in a very good place emotionally. Since I was feeling kind of down I began to write songs mostly R&B and as well as Hip Hop. Writing these however doesn't require much punctuation. I write a lot of songs, and I have compiled about 30 total in the past year. I get a lot of good feedback from the people who have heard them but I am very skittish about singing in front of people. I mostly do it for self satisfaction in my own head it helps me relax. • 14. The Writing Process Essay The Writing Process Writing a paper on the writing process is pretty hard. The writing process is different from one person to another. You come across questions like, 'What exactly is the writing process?'; and 'Must you follow one persons writing process if yours is different?'; This is where I came across the answer to my questions, write however you wish to write. If one person likes free write first and another person likes to write a draft first, let them do how they please. The writing process is something that you figure out yourself as you go through school. I personally think that is why they make us take English for so many years. Through the years, I found that some teachers forced you to write certain ways. I believe that...show more content... I don't agree with him. The only way for someone to improve his or her writing is if a peer reads over it and explains what could be done to improve it. In The Maker's Eye: Revising Your Own Manuscript, Murray says, 'Writers must learn to be their own worst enemy'; (Murray 87). He is trying to say that when it comes to editing, you must be able to accept criticism from others and be suspicious of it. Just because they say that you should rearrange that paragraph doesn't necessarily mean you have to. The way you wrote the paragraph could be in your own voice. Your papers should be filled with your voice. Voice is what makes your writing personal. But your voice could be different depending on what you write about. I would put a lot more of my feelings in a paper about food, than a paper about how the polar ice caps are melting. Revising and rewriting a paper is a common step in the writing process. Personally, I think your paper would be crap if you skipped these steps but I'm sure someone has done it before. Every writer has revised and rewritten a paper. Do you think that Shakespeare wrote Romeo and Juliet in one shot? I don't think so. In conclusion, writing is up to the writer. If the writer decides to follow the formal writing process, then that's their choice. Nothing should be forced when it comes to writing. Then the writer does not put out their best work possible. Growing Up Without a Father Essay Scott Rangel Professor Sigauke English Writing 302 11 April 2011 Daddy–less and Disadvantaged "I cannot think of any need in childhood as strong as the need for a father's protection." ––Sigmund Freud, Standard Edition, 1956 Growing up without a father or strong male role model in the United States is extremely difficult. Fatherless children are disadvantaged in American society and face a greater struggle to become successful in their personal, educational, and professional lives. A study on nearly 6,000 children found that children from single parent homes had more physical and mental health problems than children who lived with two married parents. Additionally, boys in single parent homes were found to have more illness than girls in single–parent homes (Hong). Furthermore, three out of four teenage suicides occur in households where a parent has been absent (Elshtain). This is a disturbing number and should not be taken lightly. (Chapin) Education is greatly impacted among children with mothers only. In studies involving over 25,000 children using nationally representative data sets, children who lived with only their mother had lower grade point averages, lower college aspirations, poor attendance records, and much higher drop–out rates than students who lived with both parents (McLanahan). McLanahan also states in her book that fatherless children are twice as likely to drop out of school. These figures all lead to the most important statistic–children without fathers are five times less likely to attend college (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services). • 16. Write An Essay On The Beatitudes I want start by clarifying that I will strive to be as apolitical as possible and hopefully not start a separate debate over political or religious ideology – I am not taking a side. I am also cherry–picking rather than picking a specific Beatitude – and the reason for this is because I believe elements of each apply and go together with others – interchangeable in today's context. Having said all that, I believe that we human beings have a responsibility to our fellow man, our earth, and our God (not in any specific order and not exhaustive), and I see the Beatitudes as guiding principles to be more loving, forgiving, demonstrate humility, giving of one's self, and merciful; rather than forceful, demanding, contemptuous, revengeful, or callus....show more content... For example: being a peacemaker is just as important here in the US as it is on the world stage. The goal of a peacemaker is to promote reconciliation and peace; and when needed, restore peace. When leaders have opposing or tempestuous passions – conflict arises rather than peace. So, as a leader – being a peacemaker requires being able to forgive some personal transgressions or persecutions and summon the moral spirt to rise above petty revenge or vanity. Not every society believes in the same God or shares the same ideology (monotheistic and polytheistic) – however, most have a sense of what their divine being is/should be like and how followers should act – and I argue they see the traits of being merciful, forgiving, and humility as redeeming and emulating qualities – even in those who do not subscribe to the same belief Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 21. Writing An Exemplary Essay 1. Which parts of your essay do you feel most closely meet the expectations for exemplary writing as described in the essay rubric and why? I feel that the two strongest parts of my essay are my thesis and certain parts of my closing paragraphs. My focus, or thesis, most closely meet the expectations because it offers significant insight that is precise and creatively stated. It also addresses the content requirements and is fully supported throughout the essay. I like the wording I used for the thesis, and to me it's inspirational. (2010) Moving an entire group of individuals toward a singular goal is a considerable undertaking. If there has been a pattern of initial enthusiasm for projects, yet no follow through by the one presenting the latest and greatest, there will be little interest in the any project they propose. Once a leader lacks integrity, they will not garner the support needed to reach success. No one wants to follow those they cannot believe in, nor trust. The group will not feel obligated to put themselves out for a project that they know will lack the leadership needed to reach fruition. Team members who feel confident in their leader's abilities and knowledge are more likely to trust those in leadership positions and actively work to reach the set goals (Zenger & Folkman, 2004). For a leader to promote a trusting relationship, they must give credit when due to others and take responsibility for any failures. Bestselling author and speaker on leadership, John C Maxwell (2011) stated, "A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way." A visionary leader has a clear picture of what they want to accomplish, and what will be needed to be done in order to reach the goals set.
