CHAPTER 1: INTRODUCTION
1. Rationale
In the present age - the age of market economy is open. The expansion of
economic relations between countries in the world and especially countries in
Southeast Asia including Vietnam, aims to promote economic development and
to bring economic benefits to countries which are participating in economic
relations with each other.
Due to the demand of exchanging goods and economic cooperation among
countries, the transport industry, seaport and airport services flourished to serve
the import and export of goods between domestic businesses together or between
domestic businesses and foreign companies. One of the enterprises doing the
bridge for export and import activities and also transportation activities
domestically is Nguyen Le Transportation Limited Company – where I am lucky
enough to took my internship period. I decided to write the report on the topic
“Translation in transportation”. This topic is related with Nguyen Le
Transportation Limited Company’s main business and also my task during the
internship.
2. Aims and Purposes of the assignment
The report aims to introduce some of my translation task during the internship
and would like to find out significant notes which translator may care about in the
transportation and import/export industry.

3. Scope of the assignment
My internship position is an assistant at Sales & Import/Export Department of
the Company. My tasks were translating documents under assignment of
supervisor, contacting with foreign customers of the company and other office’s
assistant work.

Translator finds information through newspaper pages and then re-selects the
appropriate 4 articles for translation, so the applied method to complete this article
is qualitative method.

The train had just 171 passengers, a sharp
decrease compared to the end of 2019,
when it carried on more than 300
passengers a trip on average, with the
number rising to 500 during Lunar New
Year (Tet) holiday season.
In the evening, another transnational train
departed the Hanoi Station with just 100
passengers. Phung Thi Ly Ha, Deputy
Director of Hanoi Railway Transport JSC
which manages the northern region, said
passenger numbers have dropped 40
percent year-on-year on the routes the
company operates.

had a hand wash gel with her for safety.
"Going by train is still less tiring than
going by car, because it is more spacious.
We can see some passengers travelling,
wearing masks as well, so that makes us
a bit less worried," she added.
Nguyen Van Duc, an attendant on the
SE9, said the train usually ran with 11
carriages, but two were removed because
there were very few passengers. The
carriages had been sanitized before
welcoming guests, and attendants were
handing out masks to passengers if
needed. The train also has a designated
isolation carriage in the event some
passengers display suspect symptoms, he
added.

Because of the epidemic, Hanoi Railway
Transport JSC had to cut two daily trains
between the capital city and the northern
province of Lao Cai, which borders
China. The company has also cut two or
three carriages on each train going on
other routes to save on equipment and
manpower, Duc said.
The company is also offering discounted
train tickets between Hanoi and Vinh
town to attract passengers.
"We have cut prices by 20 percent on this
route until March 10. Regular tickets now
cost VND164,000 ($7), and air-
conditioned berths cost VND204,000

operating trains between HCMC and Quy
Nhon completely from February 10, and
last Friday decided to run the HCMC-
Phan Thiet train on Fridays and weekends
only.

on the cancelled trains will be relocated to

transported 1.95 million passengers,

Covid-19 threat, the aviation industry

To support carriers, CAAV said it would
offer them discounts on aviation services

traffic control and direct private service
providers too to reduce their prices or

Through the process of collecting information and learning, I experienced and gain
a lot of English language related knowledge and translation skills. In particular,
my English speaking skill, listening skills as well as translating skill was enhanced
compared to the time I was in school. Besides, from the position of an assistant in
the department, I learned many experiences for the future work such as: team work
skill, time management, adaptability skill, Observe and monitor changes, always
willing to learn attitude, etc. I believe that these skills and experience will helps
me a lot in whatever my job may be in the future.
2. Recommendation
From my experience in the real environment, I would like to recommend other
peers that: for good translator, needs to prepare background knowledge about
many sectors, expescially the sector that the Company you work for. Therefore,
the work will be much smoothier. Also, the school should create more conditions
for students to have the opportunity to practice, maybe sooner, not necessarily
until graduation, because the more students experience early, the better they will
understand themselves and prepare for their future careers. Moreover, like any
other profession, interpreters/translators are jobs that require high levels of

qualifications. In addition to possessing top-notch foreign language skills,
successful interpreters also need to combine many other abilities because of direct
contact with customers such as the ability to communicate, knowledge about
culture and some other important qualities in order to perform the job well.
