It's Greener in Dublin!

2. Dublin is home to 39 parks…

3. a total of 1500 acres of parkland and open space…

4. … and 88 miles of bike path connecting our park system and residential neighborhoods.

5. The City has made a commitment of $7.7 million toward the development of the Glacier Ridge Metro Park.

6. Through the leadership and commitment our current and past City Councils, Dublin has remained focused on the preservation of our City’s natural environment.

7. Dublin has a combined 43% diversion rate for refuse and yard waste collection.

8. To date more than 5,400 households have received the new 64 gallon recycling containers. Over the next few years, the program will be expanded to our 12,000+ households.

9. The City’s Horticulture Team maintains our park landscapes, including wildflower, prairie and wetland plantings to name just a few…

10. We have completed 23 floristic assessments in our parks to determine and monitor native plant variety and health.

12. The City’s Forestry Team plants 1,100 – 1,300 street trees each year and maintains more than 21,500.

13. In 1998 City Council established requirements for tree preservation on land planned for development.

14. The City has an extensive nature education program with a full time Nature Education Coordinator.

15. In 2006, 5,540 people ranging in age from pre-school to senior citizens, took part in one of the City’s nature education classes.

16. The City has a partnership with the Ohio Wildlife Center for wildlife rescue, rehab and public education.

18. The City is responsible for maintaining 617,000 square feet of facility space. To reduce our facility impacts on the environment we have pursued several initiatives..

19. We conducted an energy audit of our buildings, changed out lights to more energy efficient choices and upgraded HVAC systems to remotely control temperatures.

20. In January of 2007, we began switching our cleaning supplies to low/no VOC, non-phosphate and bio-based options.

21. This year the City will participate in the EPA Portfolio Manager Program, allowing us to track all energy and water data.

22. With six modern roundabouts in place, the City is able to reduce vehicle idle time at intersections, cutting carbon emissions.

23. Our Volunteers…engaged citizens removing honeysuckle, an invasive species.

25. Our Volunteers… collecting bikes to be “recycled” and “re-used”.

26. ..sometimes we outgrow our bikes…think about donating yours at the City’s annual Bike Rodeo.

30. Our volunteers… involved in annual Earth Week plantings throughout our green spaces.

32. The recycled shoes are converted into playground surface material, similar to what is used in Dublin parks.
