Project Based Learning is a teaching method
in which students gain knowledge and skills by
working for an extended period of time to
investigate and respond to a complex question,
problem, or challenge.

3. Importance…
• Evolves today’s learning into 21st century
learning and incorporates technology to
improve teaching and education.
• Multiple learning styles (hands on)
• Increases Academic Achievement

5. Application to 21st Education
• PBL requires the thinking skills and use of
technology that must be present in today’s
classroom as it is linked to the digital
advancements of the technological world.
• With technology only improving we must use
it as a resource and help it turn us into the
best teachers that we may be.

6. Project Based Learning Example
Students in a 3rd grade class are learning about the environment with a
lesson that ties into Earth Day. Together as a class they decide to build
a class garden. As the progression of the garden continues, each
student will record their own findings and observations in a journal. In
groups students will assume a specific responsibility/job that pertains
to the garden. Once the gardens progression/growth is clear and is
fully visible of changes the teacher will constructed a blog page on
which students will share their journal posts, pictures that they have
taken, and other information that will be worth sharing. Once
everything is posted there in the class blog via comments/personal
posts, each student will make their own personal wiki page sharing
and reflecting on their role in the class garden and how they either
would change/make the experience better.
