2. Collecting feedback from a wide range audience has been very
useful through the entire stage of my course from start to finish. It
has helped me to improve each on of my products to make them
more professional and to fit into the horror genre easier. The
feedback has also assisted me into making more creative decisions
to make my products more effective. As well as receiving feedback
on the 3 products I was constantly receiving feedback from
different teachers on smaller things, such as my company logo and
layouts of how to present work effectively on blogger. This smaller
feedback was done during lessons and free periods.
3. TEACHER FEEDBACK- TRAILER
• At one stage during our course all of the media teachers moderated our progress so far and gave us
feedback on what we needed to improve upon. This was a great way for us as students to experience what
it is like to hear criticism from people who understood the process and new exactly what needed to be done
to improve. All criticism was constructive and made me feel more confident in what would be the overall
impact off my trailer. These were the initial feedback comments that we received and we had time to work
on them.
"Instead of recording the characters to tell the story of what has happened the girl Leila, include shots of what
happened and where it was. This would link this to later on within the trailer where you go and investigate in the
same place. Better to show than it is to tell."
" The shot needs to be lighter where the villain is walking towards the house. The only time you can see it is
when you are watching it in pitch black. This would work okay if you were watching the trailer in the cinema,
however at a home as an advert the lighting needs to be lighter in order to make it clearer."
"Try to market the mask used and make it a key feature within the film. Do some research into the history of
them types of masks to try and find a way to help it to increase the awareness of your film. You can then use it
as a give away in your magazine and the poster shall then have a bigger effect seen as though the mask is the
main image."
"Check that all text included in the trailer is the same size and is centred in the frame. I believe just one is slightly
off centre but I like the choice of font and the fact you have placed in on a static background linking to the use of
handheld cameras."
4. TEACHER FEEDBACK- TRAILER
• We made these changes to our trailer before showing the teachers once again. This was
then the new feedback that we received from them which was very positive.
• They stated that the soundtrack throughout the trailer was excellent at building tension
and the change of sound of it to allow sound effects such as screaming was an excellent
convention to jump scare the audience.
• Another comment was on how much more effective it was to show the audience what was
going on rather than to just tell them through the use of dialogue. It made it easier for the
audience to understand as they focus more visually.
• One teacher particularly enjoyed our range of camera shots and the extent we went to
scare our audience by dragging one character across the floor to create a jump scare.
This feedback was extremely appreciated as it came from qualified media teachers who are
very experienced and it made me feel more comfortable with the quality of my horror trailer.
5. TEACHER FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY TEXTS
• We also received feedback on our magazine and poster during our first moderation. I received a lot of constructive
criticism on my magazine which was needed as I was struggling to create a professional product however my poster
feedback was very good and gave me a boost of confidence. The initial feedback of my ancillary texts were as
follows.
"The masthead needs to be bigger as at the moment there are other features on here that are bigger. In your research
you look at the layouts of magazines and you can see that the masthead should be the biggest feature on a cover to
catch the attention of the audience."
"I am not a big fan of the white blocks that your text is in, I think it would be better if the text was just on the image and
was white instead.“
"The text that is above your feature films, I think needs to be below instead.“
"You could try using the mask again to help promote this by giving away a free copy of your mask and using is as a buff
feature."
"The poster looks really good and I do not think any thing really needs changing on it. Just double check everything lines
up neatly."
"Don't forget to add your other groups members production company so that you have both of them on there."
"Make sure you all have the same release date for your film or simply have coming soon on there instead."
6. TEACHER FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY TEXTS
• I made the changes that were stated to me by my experienced media teachers to
create my final film poster and magazine cover
My teachers loved the overall effect I carried through
the ancillary products including the colour scheme
and fonts stating they looked very professional.
7. FACEBOOK FEEDBACK
• I decided to gain extra feedback that was not just from my
teachers. Although my teacher are very experienced I wanted to
gain feedback from what would be my normal audience as there
criticism is just as important. Facebook was also useful to use
as the main age range of people on Facebook is of teenagers
aged 15 plus, which the target audience for my products. It was
also a quick way to receive criticism from an audience who isn’t
familiar with the conventions such as billing credits and
masthead, but the effect the over all look gives.

11. FACEBOOK FEEDBACK- ANCILLARY TEXTS
• I had a lot of great feedback for my poster and magazine from people on Facebook. For
my magazine people liked the professional quality that is had and they stated that layout
didn’t look too fussy and over crowded but still included all information that was needed.
They also liked the idea of giving away a free mask and the colour scheme was stated to
fit in well with the horror genre.
• For the poster they once again said that the layout was good and the colour scheme once
again fitted in with the horror genre. They also said the effect on the mask was amazing
and really makes the poster stand out. The slogan above the title was also said to have a
great effect towards the title.
• One negative that came about from the feedback was that the colour red that I used for
the title on my poster and a selection of text on the magazine was maybe a little bit too
dark.
• Overall I was really happy with the response I received from Facebook and made me
realise that you have to focus more on being able to confidentially read all the text instead
of giving it a slight effect.
12. FEEDBACK- TRAILER
• I showed my trailer to two groups of people. One being a group of teenagers at school
and the other a group of family and friends at home. I received similar feedback from both
groups verbally and wrote down their response.
• They all stated that they loved the music. They said it built up tension very well and
helped significantly to create the response of many jump scares. The change of volume of
sound also helped to create this and really emphasised the genre of a horror.
• The dark lighting was also a feature that was pointed out that worked effectively. They
said it helped build suspension and draws you in by wanting to see what's going on.
• The background of the text for our separated slogan was also a feature that was liked.
They said it fitted in well with the narrative of hand held cameras. The static added effect
and linked in well
• The overall response was really good for my trailer and my other products. They all link
well together and have created a great brand.
