5. Counselling teachers
1. Classroom Teaching (60 %):
Wide range of issues: Finnish society and culture, working life,
educational system and vocational training in Finland
Working together with Finnish language teachers
Dual teacher-system: basic vocabulary/key words with examples (finnish
teacher)+ more detailed information/knowledge about the topic
(counselling teacher)
2. Personal counselling (20 %):
initial assessment of students background
supporting students in challenging situations (integration process)
career counselling
3. collaboration with local working life - companies, public sector, third
sector (20 %) in finding suitable work practice places for students
At the work practice: discussing students future plans, skills and
possibilities of employment

6. Preparatory training
for vocational education
Length: 60 credits (approx. 9 months)
Funding from National Board of Education
Meant for young immigrants heading for vocational
education
Level of language proficiency A2.2 – B1.2
2 groups, 32-34 students in total
Objective: to improve the student’s language and
coping skills and other skills needed in vocational
studies
Contents: Finnish, mathematical and social subjects
