Riqaa style was developed only 147
Kufi years ago by Mumtas Bik under the
rule of Sultan Abdul Majid during the
Ottoman empire. This makes it the
newest Arabic font developed. see
(fig.1)
As literacy grew in Arabia, the need
for a useful practical font that can be
used for everyday life and to be writ-
ten with facility and rapidity. In
response, Sultan Abdul Majid ordered
the calligrapher Mumtas to design a
new font that meets this specific crite-
ria, to make an easy and simple writ-

ing style that any ordinary person can
learn and use.
Writing Riqaa
Riqaa style is like handwriting. It is the
most used style now adays in Arabic
writing. Riqaa became simplified,
unlike other styles, it is rounded and
densely structured with short hori-
zontal stems. All Riqaa letters are to
be written above the line except for
six letters which are (geem, ha, kha,
een, gha and meem).
when writing riqaa, we do not include
any decorative elements or tashkeel. fig.2
It stands alone as a typical handwrit-
ing. Riqaa is broken into three
elementary shapes that shape all the
28 letters see (fig.2). By mastering
these three shapes, one could easily
learn how to write Riqaa.
Website Design Examples
As part of my multidisciplinary education in Design Management, I learned
the basic skills of HTML and Dreamweaver for website development. These
are two examples of websites I fully designed and developed.
