This document provides instructions for students to research an animal species found in Utah in order to help prevent its extinction. It explains that students will be paired up and assigned an animal to research. They will use a web quest to learn about the animal and its habitat(s) in Utah, filling out a concept map and Venn diagram. Students will then determine which Utah habitat(s) could support their animal. The document describes the three habitats found in Utah - desert, forest, and wetlands - and provides a rubric for the assignment.
2. Introduction
Wild animals can be found living in various habitat’s on our
planet. Habitats are areas that a specific animal’s live in.
Most animals are only adapted to live in one or two types of
habitats. For example, a salt water fish could not live in a
fresh water pond and a snake could not live in the Antarctic.
Some animals migrate to warmer habitats during the spring
and fall where there is more food. Utah has three different
habitat’s desert, forest, and wetland each habitat has
different animals living in them. Your job as a
Conservationist is to find a way to preserve one of the
animal species found in Utah to prevent the animal from
becoming extinct.

will be used to let others know what needs to be done in
order to protect these animals so that they can thrive on our

4. Process
• You have been divided into pairs and have picked the animal you
will research.
• You have formed hypothesis’s about the animal by filling out the
worksheet given to you in class.
• By using this web quests you will be able to learn about your
animal and it’s habitat.
• You will use this information to fill out your concept map about your
animal and a Venn Diagram about the habitat’s found in Utah.
Click here to look at the rubric which will tell you what you are
required to do for this assignment.
• After using this web quest you will discuss the habitat or habitat’s
that can support your animal by using the information on your
concept map and Venn Diagram with your partner.

you to determine what habitat/s can support the animal in Utah.
There are three habitat’s found in Utah these are the desert, forest
and wetlands. Click on the images below to find out about each of
these habitat’s. You will need to use this information to determine
