2. The image of Gerard Way portrays him as quite twisted and strange.
This is shown through his smirking facial expression while making
hand gestures that look like guns which suggests he likes guns and
violence which is odd. The mid-shot that has been used allows you to
see the hand gestures and the facial expression making is clear what
he is being represented as. Gerard is also wearing a blue leather jacket
with a high collar that conceals his neck – making him look
mysterious. However, the blue makes him look powerful as it is often
seen on the costumes of familiar superheroes. The fingerless leather
gloves adds to the mystery and represents him as being aggressive as
they are black which connotes death.
The colour black represents the artist on the cover as being quite
aggressive when it is combined with the reds and yellows on the page.
This is because red is the colour of blood, the same colour as Gerard’s
hair, which would make him represented as angry as his hair colour
can be associated with blood. The colour yellow is also associated with
danger, which represents the artist as being dangerous – making
people fearful of him.
The images of the two artists in the terminal area represents them as
scary and frightening. This is because the left artist is reaching out at
the camera as if to grab you and the other artist’s face is hidden which
also makes him look mysterious as you can’t see his face.
3. The image of the All-American Rejects
represents the lead singer, Tyson Ritter, as
being very childish and playful. This
representation comes from the colour of his
clothing as he is wearing bold oranges, reds,
purples, and blues. These colours also
represent him as unusual, because those
colours do not compliment each other and are
not often seen being worn at the same time. He
is also represented as being quite immature as
he looks like he is falling over and messing
around in the image whereas the other band
members are stood still and upright which
represents them as more mature. Tyson’s outfit
also represents him as offbeat as there is a lot
of different patterns and textures.
This artist is represented as an aggressive character and a very
strong person. This is shown through his facial expression as he
looks angry and annoyed. His hand is also pointing at himself which
represents him as important as he wants everyone to look and take
notice of him. The medium close up allows you to see his angry
expression and also lets you see his tattoo sleeve which represents
him as fearless and strong.
4. The scratch artwork on the page represents the artist as quite playful and
immature as it is representing a dinosaur scratch in a cartoony way which
represents him as childish as a more mature adult wouldn’t have silly artwork, a
toy dinosaur, or the hand-drawn font style on their feature.
The long shot of the artist allows you to see the fear as he is crouched down
with his hands defending himself. This shows that he is represented as silly and
playful as he is pretending to be scared of a toy dinosaur and isn’t taking the
photo-shoot seriously.
The pull quote in the terminal area represents the artist to be quite happy and
welcoming to people as he is saying how he likes to talk to people who
recognise him which suggests that he is very outgoing and talkative.
