This document discusses key concepts in biology and ecosystems, including defining terms like biotic and abiotic factors, classifying different types of symbiotic relationships (mutualism, commensalism, parasitism), and identifying different biomes found on Earth (deserts, forests, grasslands, tundra, aquatic). The purpose is to teach students about ecosystems and the relationships between living things, as well as human impacts and the importance of maintaining clean surroundings. Visual aids and activities are incorporated, such as identifying similarities and differences in concept drawings of "home" and viewing examples of symbiotic relationships.
2. Learning Competencies
⪢ Describe the principles of
the ecosystem and
⪢ Categorize the different
biotic and environmental
resistance e.g., diseases,
availability of food, and
predators) that affect
population explosion
3. At the end of the lesson, I
will be able to..
Define the different terms related
to the ecosystem
Enumerate the different
components of the ecosystem
Classify the different types of
symbiotic relationships
Appreciate the importance of
maintaining cleanliness in the
surroundings
4. Do you notice
something about the
weather?
Is it the same as it was
before or is it now
constantly changing?
5. What could be the reason
for this?
Do you notice problems
with our surroundings?
What is the reason or the
cause for these problem?
9. The Desert Biomes:
They are the Hot and Dry Deserts, Semi Arid Deserts,
Coastal Deserts and Cold Deserts.
10. The Aquatic Biomes:
Aquatic biomes are grouped into two, Freshwater Biomes
(lakes and ponds, rivers and streams, wetlands) and Marine
Biomes (oceans, coral reefs and estuaries)
11. The Forest Biomes:
There are three main biomes that make up Forest Biomes.
These are the Tropical Rainforest, Temperate and Boreal
Forests (also called the Taiga)
12. The Grassland Biomes:
There are two main types of grassland biomes: the Savanna
Grasslands and the Temperate Grasslands.
19. “⪢ What do you call these
relationships that exist
between living things?
20. There are three types of
symbiosis they are
Mutualism, Commensalism,
and Parasitism .
21. ⪢ Mutualism - This is when both
organisms benefit from the
relationship. (this is the most
common type)
⪢ Commensalism - This is when
one of the organisms benefits from
it and the other one is not effected
by it.
⪢ Parasitism - This is when one of
the organisms (parasite) benefits
and the other one is weakened by
it.
