recognised as a vital component in improving organisational effectiveness
thorough the development of both teams and individuals
 Psychometrics produces in-depth psychological profiles of individuals
covering both personality and intellectual ability

Psychometric Testing Types
Categorised into following types:
1. Ability Test
Also called achievement tests assist in determining how well an individual can
perform tasks related to the job
For example: Typing test given to a prospective employee for a secretarial job
2. Tests of attainment
Assess specifically what people have learnt
Focus on what has been learnt and on what a person knows and can do now
3. Intelligence Tests
Test designed to test IQ level

4. Aptitude Test
Test which help in determining a person’s potential to learn in a given area
They focus on what the person is capable of achieving in the future
An example of such test is the General Management Aptitude Test (GMAT)
which many business students take prior to gaining admission to a graduate
business school programme
5. Personality Test
Aims to describe aspects of a person's character that remain stable throughout a
person's lifetime, the individual's character pattern of behaviour, thoughts, and
feelings
Measures/determines a prospective employee’s motivation to function in a
particular working environment

6. Interest Test
Test which is used to measure an individual’s activity preferences
Particularly useful for students considering many careers or employees deciding
upon career changes
7. Graphology Test
Test that seeks to predict success or failure through one’s handwriting
Individual’s handwriting suggest the degree of energy, inhibitions and
spontaneity, elements of balance and control
For example, big letters and emphasis on capital letters indicate a tendency
towards domination and competitiveness

Polygraph is a lie detector which is designed to ensure accuracy of the
information given by the individuals
