3. Before Christmas…
People put up Christmas trees in their houses. Normally in early
December. They are decorated with tinsel and baubles. And we put a
star at the top of the tree! Then we can put our presents under the
tree.

5. Every town will have Christmas lights up in the streets. The town will
have a big event for the day when they switch on the lights – with
music and other activities

Advent is the name for
the days before
Christmas – 1st-24th
December.

7. Writing Lettersto SantaClaus
A few weeks before Christmas,
children will writea letter to
Santa Claustelling him what
they would like for Christmas (if
they havebeen good!)
8. Nativity Plays at School
It is very common in primary schools to perform a
Nativity play, telling the Christmas story. Lots of
parents and friends can come to see the play.
9. 24th December – CHRISTMAS EVE
On Christmas Eve night, children often leave out mince
pies for Santa, and carrots for his reindeer.
10. Children hang stockings on the fireplace or on the end of
their beds. This is where Santa Claus will leave their
presents!
11. Santa Claus (or Father
Christmas) visits all the
children´s houses on Christmas
Eve night, while they are sleeping.
He lives in the North Pole, where
his elves help him make the toys.
He travels around the world on
Christmas Eve in his sleigh, with
his 9 reindeer!
18. The Queen´s Speech
Every year on
Christmas Day, the
Queen of the U.K.
does a speech to the
whole country which
goes out on T.V.
19. 26th of December – Boxing Day
The 26th December is
the traditional day in
the U.K. to go and visit
family members
There are also big
sales in a lot of shops!
