2. Stanley and the Flat Folks
Stanley was just like any other boy. He liked
school, hanging out with friends, and riding his
bike. Most of all, Stanley enjoyed playing sports.
It was his love of sports that changed his life
forever…

3. One Saturday afternoon, while Stan was out
bowling with some friends, he was distracted by
a cute girl and he didn’t see the wild ball that
the bowler in the next lane had thrown his way.

4. Before he could even say, “Hey babe,” Stan
had been flattened by the foul ball.

5. His friends revived
him with water, but
he was still flat.

6. Stanley called 9‐1‐1.

7. In the hospital, he was fed ham and
vegetables and cupcake brownies…

8. … but nothing would plump him up.

9. Flat Stanley’s relatives came…

10. … from near…

11. … and far…

12. to wish him well.

13. Meanwhile, Flat
Stanley’s friend,
Spencer, had heard of
a group of flat people
that lived in Dayton,
Ohio…

14. … and decided to
take his friend on a
cross‐country trip to
visit them for advice.

15. Stanley and Spencer packed their suitcases
and headed off for their adventure.

16. At the airport,
Spencer told the pilot
that Stanley was a
little nervous about
flying.

17. So, the pilot buckled Stanley in his seat and
then…

18. … treated him to some cookies and a soda.

19. Stanley played a little Pokemon on his Nintendo
DS and the rest of the plane ride went smoothly.

20. Upon arriving at their destination, Stanley and
Spencer were greeted by the group of Flat Folks who had
put up a sign saying, “Welcome To Dayton.”

21. The Flat Folk of Dayton told Stanley they understood
how he felt and encouraged him to turn his weakness into
strength. They said, “When life gives you a lemon, make
SunnyD!”

22. From that day
forward, Flat Stanley
has lived his life to the
fullest. He goes on
hikes in the park,…

23. … has learned to drive a car,…

24. … and even flew
the airplane back
home!

25. Today, he’s a big fan of rock music,…

26. … Skyline Chili,…

27. … and his best friend, Spencer!

28. What Stanley learned best was that it doesn’t
matter if you’re thin or fat, short or tall… all that
matters is that you make the most out of what
you have, each and every day.
