Medtech is highly innovative but facing many obstacles
• Medtech industry is a high contributor to innovation (high patent levels)
• Often facing a demand side, mostly public sector, which is quite risk averse
• 70% of global medtech sales go through public procurement, mostly based
on price
• Lack of skills among procurement officers on new technology, payment
models  need for help to shift to value based procurement
• eHealth is undoubtedly a factor for growth
• Many obstacles to digital health implementation need to remove barriers

Investments in prevention and primary care are key
• Hospital care is being reorganised , focusing on highly specialised care  keep
patients out
• Primary care is often sub-efficient:
• Ageing GP population,
• Shortage in some professions,
• Inefficient use of existing resources,
• Increased demand from the population,
• Lack of digital skills
• Cost of new technologies, cost of re-organising care around the patients
• Reimbursementsystems based on “pay for service”
