14. Already Using “Work” Identifiers?
• Do you model the concept of a parent work?
y p p
– How do you assign multiple parents for derived works?
• Does your logic correspond with ISTC for determining a new
work already?
k l d ?
– Are abridged audiobooks new works?
– Are illustrated editions new works?
– Is an annually revised publication a succession of new works?
• Same title, same contributors—How do you account for
typos?
16. Do You Identify Title Changes?
• Does your metadata include previous title?
y p
• Does your metadata include ‘excerpted from’, or any
indication of the original language title of a translated work?
• Will titles link if marketing changes a title or subtitle between
editions?
• What if the same work is available in different markets under
What if the same work is available in different markets under
different titles?
18. If So, You Can Easily Comply with ISTC
• Revise definitions of fields to be in compliance going forward
p g g
• Determine if there are codes and data types you need to start
collecting/storing
• Create or map data to accommodate new concepts
– Work Type
– Origination
– Derivation Type
• Add fields for ISTC storage
– ISTC
– Source ISTC—Allow for multiple occurences
• Consider rolling ISTC changes into ONIX 3.0 work
