Creates an image, which you can refresh from Excel
Base concept – how do you connect to data, build a chart/dashboard, and how to you make it available?
DataSets
A source of data for use in reports within Power BI
DataSets can be static ie do not refresh, or Dynamic which refresh on a scheduled basis
Large range of datasets available:

Copy of the data within Power BI
Upload
No copy of the data in Power BI
Pin charts, ranges, pivot tables to dashboards
Base concept – what is a report and how do reports differ from visualisations?
Reports
A collection of pages containing visualisations
View mode and edit mode
Owners of the report can edit
Pin reports to a dashboard
- Create new report from a data set or
From an existing report (save as)
Base concept – what is a dashboard and what is the difference between a dashboard and a report?

5. Simple Visulisations
Create a simple Pie Chart – demo this and let the users do one.
Show all the options for configuring it / labels/colours etc
Click a visualisation to add it to the canvas – it will be grey while no data has been added
See the area where you can drag fields – show how this changes depending on the visualisation selected e.g. Pie Chart, Tree Map
Create pie chart – Count of Medal by Gender
Show how you can move the visualisation around, resize etc
Show how you can convert the visulations to something else and how the data fields remain e.g. convert to tree map, bar chart etc
Add a tree map to compare visualisations -
5. Combination Charts
Use When: You want to combine two different measures on the same chart
A combination chart such as a line + bar is useful to show and compare two measures at the same time
E.g. Number of Athletes + Number of Countries over years
