5. The target audience of my magazine is 16-25 year old indie/indie rock music fans and I have chosen this as my target audience as I feel I can relate to it most
over any other as it is within my age range and is of a genre of music I enjoy.
The features and techniques used to create my magazine all appeal to the target audience and make them want to pick up the magazine and read it – this is
because the features included contain information that is of importance or is seen as interesting to the audience.
The images used on all 3 of the pages all represent a young generation of artists as they are all of people within the ages of 16-20. As this corresponds to my
target audience it could make them feel as if it is possible for them to do so as they are looking at others of their age on the magazine – it makes it relatable to
them and makes them want to read the magazine.
The coverlines used are all of indie rock/indie bands which my target audience prefers – As the audience see the names of the bands that are the focus of the
coverlines they will be enticed immediately and be encouraged to read it due to general interest and enjoyment of the band. As they read the small piece of
information on the coverline they will be further encouraged as they tease the audience with a brief but important bit of information making them want to
know more about it.
Like the coverlines, the content used are all about things to do with audience members likings and interests. All the content of the magazine is music based
whether it be directly about bands or if it is about festivals or gigs – this would be extremely appealing to the reader as their interests and hobbies are all
taken into account and the content is specifically tapered to what they like. This would encourage them to buy and read the magazine.
The style of writing used are both formal and informal as my target audience are all in a form of education and are somewhat intelligent – this is where a
formal tone would be acceptable but an informal tone is also used at other parts (more so on the front cover) as with todays youth (target audience age
range) there is a different language used and so I have attempted to use phrases and language that is used in everyday life for these audience members in
order to make the magazine connect on a more personal level.
As my target audience prefer to read less and want to put in less effort when reading the magazine the overall length of it is not too long and is straight to the
point so the audience will not be put off reading it before they start. A very long magazine would look quite daunting for the audience to read as it requires
more effort so the short length of the magazine will appeal to them
The price of my magazine would also encourage the audience to buy it as their income is not a very large amount and so it would not break the bank to buy
this magazine once a fortnight as they earn enough money to be able to do so. As it is quite cheap they would not have any reluctance when it comes to
purchasing it.
