We Do Dance
Who We Are BNC has three interdependent primary programming areas: A Recognized Leader in Community Education A Celebrated School of Dance A Nationally Acclaimed Contemporary Dance Company
Mission & Vision Mission Statement Ballet Nouveau Colorado’s company, school and community programs are dedicated to enriching lives through innovation in dance. Vision Statement Ballet Nouveau Colorado will be recognized as an international leader in the education, development and presentation of dance.
Values & Mantra Values Statement At Ballet Nouveau Colorado we believe that excellence in dance begins with the dedication of each individual. We pursue our mission with the highest level of passion and integrity and are responsible to our students, audiences and community. We believe that a healthy and reasonable foundation in classical ballet develops discipline and provides the basic tools needed for the exploration of new possibilities in our art form. We value collaboration, creativity and innovation in all of our pursuits and we believe that dance should be an enriching and fulfilling experience that is available and accessible to all.   Mantra Statement Community, Collaboration, Creation BNC’s philosophy centers around these three fundamental valuesthat shape the direction of our three programming areas. Each area is deeply tied to the others and informs, inspires and influences the way each area grows and serves the community.
History 1992 - BNC was founded to fill a need for quality ballet training and educational dance programs in Denver’s north metro community. 1999 - The National Guild for Community Arts Education certifies BNC’s quality programs. 2002 - BNC establishes its professional company. 2002 - Colorado State House of Representatives recognizes BNC with a resolution for its contributions to the state through professional performances, educational programs and community involvement. 2003- BNC implements its ongoing Title I Elementary Partnership Program. 2007 - The arrival of Artistic Director Garrett Ammon and Associate Artistic Director Dawn Fay mark a transformational change for BNC.
History 2009 - BNC is named “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine  – the first Colorado organization to receive this honor. 2010 - School Director Julia Wilkinson Manley serves on the committee to rewrite the teaching standards for dance for the Colorado Department of Education. 2010-2011 season- BNC’s collaboration with Colorado band Paper Bird in Feb. 2011 performs to sold out audiences; encore performance in June 2011 at Arvada Center breaks previous CenterFest attendance records, performing to 1,100 individuals. 2011 - BNC Artistic Director Garrett Ammonreceived Bonfils-Stanton’s prestigious Livingston Fellowship Sept. 2011- BNC kicks off its 10th anniversary season of the professional company. Today - BNC plays a distinctive role in the Denver community as an acclaimed contemporary dance company, ballet school and community education organization.
2010-11 Season Successes Provided critically needed arts education to 20,000 underprivileged youth in elementary schools across Adams, Broomfield, Jefferson, Boulder and Denver Counties. More than 80% of these students fall below the federal poverty line and up to 25% are classified as homeless. Gave free tickets toover1,200 low-income, senior and at risk individuals for BNC’s five professional productions, thus offering a memorable night of entertainment and inspiration to those who would not have had the opportunity to witness the beauty of the arts. Provided$70,000 in scholarships and tuition assistancefor students to train at The School of BNC. Established new classes at The School of BNC for senior citizens and students with special needs.
2010-11 Season Successes   BNC offered Denver metro audiences five professional productions reaching nearly 10,000 individuals, growing our audience by nearly 20% and subscribers by 73% over the previous season. Presented a contemporary dance season of four world premierecollaborative productions with more than 20 local artists. Carry Onfeaturing Paper Bird was presented to over 1,100 audience members in one evening, a new record in the history of Centerfest. Began a regional touring program to bring contemporary dance to communities across Colorado. Over12months, BNC presented productions in Pueblo, Colorado Springs and Crested Butte
The Financial Facts In 2010-11, BNC trimmed its annual budget by approximately $200,000 or 13% from the previous season, and the operating budget for 2011-12 has remained flat at $1.4M. Despite necessary budget cuts, we've been able to do so without having to make any critical programming cuts. Did you know that ticket sales account for only 27% of the cost for BNC’s professional productions? This is why sponsors and donors play such a pivotal role in BNC’s success.  In fact, 51% of BNC’s operational budgeted revenue must come from fundraising.Sources of funding come from the following areas:  44% fees earned income, 19% individual contributions, 16% SCFD government,8% business, 6%foundations, 4% in-kind and 3% events. In 2010-11 individual giving was down over the previous year. With a challenging fundraising environment since 2008 due to the economy, BNC has had year-end losses for the past couple seasons.  BNC is determined to increase financial stability and pay off accumulated debt, but we can’t do that without more community support. You and your company can make a major impact in your community by becoming a BNC sponsor. You may or may not be aware that arts organizations, including BNC, are facing decreasing support from corporations and government than ever before. Your sponsorship support is an investment in your community, is instrumental in our viability, and also provides your organization with a high-level of marketing visibility and ROI.
Why support BNC? Our professional company, school and community programs serve nearly 30,000 children, adults and families each year   BNC offers a quality of performances and programs that are unparalleled in Colorado BNC preserves the traditions of the craft through a rigorous, energizing ballet school and numerous community outreach programs Collaborating with other artists is one of the company’s fundamental values and is articulated in BNC’s mantra – Community, Collaboration, Creation – enriching lives through innovation in dance. Last season, BNC collaborated with over 20 artists.
Why support BNC? BNC purposefully keeps its tickets prices low so that its professional productions are accessible to everyone in the community. Serving more than 20,000 individuals annually, BNC’s Community Programs are some of the most comprehensive in the metro Denver and Boulder areas. BNC provides $70K annually in scholarships and tuition assistance for youth to study dance at The School of BNC. Studies show kids that have access to arts perform better academically, and BNC’s community education programs use dance principles to teach math, language arts, science and history. BNC takes a healthy approach to dance teaching students proper nutrition, offering a healthy snack shop, and focusing on healthy minds and bodies.

  • 7. 2010-11 Season Successes Provided critically needed arts education to 20,000 underprivileged youth in elementary schools across Adams, Broomfield, Jefferson, Boulder and Denver Counties.
  • 8. 2010-11 Season Successes   BNC offered Denver metro audiences five professional productions reaching nearly 10,000 individuals, growing our audience by nearly 20% and subscribers by 73% over the previous season.

Getting a generation motivated and moving as children will keep them motivated and moving as healthy adults.

  8. BNC was founded nearly 20 years ago to provide quality ballet training and educational dance programs for Broomfield and the greater Denver and Boulder areas. Today, our professional company, school and community programs serve nearly 30,000 children, adults and families each year. BNC offers a quality of performances and programs that are unparalleled in Colorado. This dynamic company pushes the boundaries of ballet to keep the art form fresh and current. Simultaneously, BNC preserves the traditions of the craft through a rigorous, energizing ballet school and numerous community outreach programs With a commitment to dance that is both artistically rich and highly accessible, BNC’s artistic vision has filled an important void in the region’s dance offerings and is helping lay the groundwork for a new and vibrant era in the American dance community. This is evidenced by BNC being named Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” in 2009, and BNC Artistic Director Garrett Ammon receiving Bonfils-Stanton’s prestigious Livingston Fellowship in 2011.Collaborating with other artists is one of the company’s fundamental values and is articulated in BNC’s mantra – Community, Collaboration, Creation – enriching lives through innovation in dance. Last season, BNC collaborated with over 20 artists, and this season, audiences will enjoy two world premiere dance productions that will be enriched through fine arts and multi-media collaborations.
  9. Through the ages, dance has been a form of expression accessible to everyone without the barriers of language or social boundaries. BNC uses this tradition of dance as a guiding force in all the cultural programming it offers to greater Denver area residents. BNC purposefully keeps its tickets prices low so that its professional productions are accessible to everyone in the community. This includes affordable tickets to BNC’s annual family favorite, The Nutcracker, with an average ticket price of just $18. BNC also gives away over 1,200 tickets each year to low-income seniors and at-risk individualsServing more than 20,000 individuals annually, BNC’s Community Programs are some of the most comprehensive in the metro Denver are and area praised for their collaborative approach and highly skilled instructors. The School operates under the principle that students of all ages, experience and background should have access to quality dance training. BNC provides $70K annually in scholarships and tuition assistance for youth to study dance at The School of BNC. Without these scholarships these students would be unable to pursue their passion for dance. For many of these disadvantaged children who live in poverty, this is a life-changing event for them. The arts education programming that BNC brings to schools throughout the Denver and Boulder metro areas not only exposes youth to dance, but studies show that kids that have access to the arts perform better academically.  BNC even goes as far to design curriculum with schools to help teach subjects such as math, language arts, science and history using movement and dance creation principles. Further evidence shows that students that study at BNC are high academic achievers evidenced by: 85% of graduating seniors have GPAs over 4.5; one Boettcher scholar; 95% of graduating seniors have gone on to study at Universities with majors in medicine, politics, engineering, finance, as well as dance. If you get kids moving now when they’re still young, they will be more active, healthier adults. BNC’s Community Education Programs not only teach youth about dance, but get kids moving, and this is becoming more important than ever before with rising obesity rates among the nation’s youth.  The School of BNC also cares deeply about teaching students proper nutrition, offering a healthy snack shop, and taking a healthy approach to dance, focusing on healthy minds and bodies.
