From Event to Action: Accelerate Your Decision Making with Real-Time Automation
Question 6
1. Question 6
What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing the product?
2. Apple Mac
• Before the start of our project, I had absolutely no previous
experience with Mac software. I became very frustrated with
them, basic controls, folder structures and programmes were
all very new to me and I found it difficult to use initially. As the
course progressed, so did my Mac computer skills. I eventually
learned the general way or using a Mac, and could use it
effectively and efficiently. I still much prefer windows
software, however I am now comfortable with Mac
computers.
3. The Camera
• Prior to the course I have never used a camera other then on
smart phones. During the project I did not use the camera
loads, as I was usually in front of it. However I did do a few
scenes with it, such as close up shots and establishing shots. I
managed to figure out how to use it in a simple way, although
due to the fact I rarely used the camera, I did not mess with
the effects at all.
4. Voice Recorder
• We also used a voice recorder for our project, as our only
speaking parts in the opening sequence was a voice over. We
used this instead of a camera to get the voice recorded as it is
clearer and even simpler to use. However a small problem
was finding your own recording, scrolling through previous
files can take a while and cost us valuable time.
5. Wix.com
• Wix is a website creating program, and is what we used to
showcase our project. The research, evaluation, pictures etc.
It basically acted as our portfolio. However, I came across a lot
of problems with the site, numerous times it has failed for me.
Especially at school, simple things such as logging in simply
would not work, pictures may or may not upload. It was very
inconsistent and frustrating to use. I had to upload most of my
work at home
6. Final cut Express
• Final cut express was the programme we used to edit all of
our opening sequence. We used this programme to shorten
clips, cut them, merge them together, add audio and put in
our titles. Like many other pieces of software prior to our
project, I had no previous experience with this programme.
However I found it quite simple to upload clips, and then use
them on the timeline to edit our video. Although I was not the
main editor for our final product, I did take part in the process
of building it together. Sometimes we had problems doing
specific things, such as adding in titles or rotating certain clips,
however we eventually go there in the end.
7. Youtube
Another programme I used during our project was Youtube. This is
where we uploaded all research and videos related to our opening
sequence. Such as our interview, classic directors of thrillers etc.
What also went on there was our rough cut, our completed
opening sequence and our annotated opening sequence. Overall I
found youtube very simple to use, uploading and annotating was
not difficult at all.
