IBM's strategy is to provide flexible client platforms including Windows, Linux, and Macintosh based on job roles and requirements. IBM supports Open Source desktop clients like Open Client for Linux, which is based on selective installations of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and other Linux distributions. It includes productivity and collaboration applications like Lotus Notes, Sametime, and Symphony. IBM works with customers to implement Open Source desktops through options like virtual desktop services and live USB installations. Statistics show around 15-20 thousand IBM employees use Linux clients while most use Windows.
