2. The Bards
uneet Puri was hooked to a life in the outdoors ever
since her father took her rock climbing at the age of 5.
Trekking and climbing have been a passion with her
and she has been trekking the Uttarakhand Himalayas since her
school days. She has also trekked in Nepal. She is something of
a dare devil and to challenge herself she often treks solo.
G
hashi Bahuguna has been an avid trekker and climber
most of her life. She is almost a mountain goat, having
grown up in a Kamouni Village and having spent her
childhood in the arms of the mountains. She met Anusha and
Guneet on an expedition in the Himalayas. She too treks solo or
Alpine style when the mood takes her. She is also a trained
rescuer.
S
nusha Subramanian, an award winning journalist,
started her trekking career in the Sayadri ranges at
the tender age of 7 and had covered most of it by the
time she reached her teens. She started walking the Himalayas in
2006 and has trekked across all 5 Himalayan states. She has also
trekked extensively abroad.

3. The Bohemian Way
ur philosophy with regards to BA is simple, "of the
mountains, for the mountains and by the mountains".
We view the mountains as our home and as we do what
we do best here, climb and trek, we also aim to give back to our
home by providing a sustainable economic scenario to its
residents.
As far as possible we try to provide our clients a glimpse into the
lives of the mountain folk, their culture and traditions with home
stays along our trek routes.
Our vision for the years to come includes the promotion of women
in the sport of mountaineering both as team leaders and guides.
We also hope to lead by example by having stricter and more
stringent safety and environmental guidelines implemented in the
Himalayas.

Itinerary
5. Of legends, myths and the journey to them
Dodital is a picturesque lake in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand. The lake is
fed from natural springs and is the source of the river ‘Asi Ganga’. Legend has it
that the pristine shores of this lake are the birthplace of Lord Ganesha. Dodital is
also called Dhundhital, Ganesha’s Lake. The lake derives its name from the word
Dodi (Trout in the local language). As can be imagined the lake provides a home
to this particular fresh water fish.
Nestled under the cool shade of the Deodar trees at the bank of the lake is a
quaint little temple dedicated to Lord Ganesha. Religious or not, no trek to the
lake is complete without at least a quick look in this ancient temple.
Uttarkashi – Sangam Chatti – Bhewara
The road head of Sangam Chatti is an ideal place to sit and enjoy a cuppa as the
final preparations are made before commencing on a road into the heart of
Indian legend.
The Trek
6. As one enjoys a hot cup of tea it gives one time to ponder on the destruction
wreaked upon the area by the forces of nature. Massive bridges lie asunder as if
pushed out of its way by an angered entity that now is nothing more than a
gentle stream.
The path from Sangam Chatti to the village of Agoda is almost completely
exposed and open. It can very easily be described as barren/desolate terrain.
The initial climb is also a moderately steep one. But then just as the climb
begins to ease out so does the terrain. Beyond Agoda to Behwara the both the
walk and the terrain are gentle and soothing. Winding paths cooled by the
shade of trees that have stood the test of time welcome the willing into their
midst.
Bhewara – Dodital
The initial walk from Bhewara towards Dodital takes one on a path across the
village of Bewara. As the path takes the trekker out of the village the path starts
a slightly steep ascent into the Deodar forest.
The Trek
7. This ascent levels out after about an hour’s walk. From then on it is a gentle and
melodious walk through the forest all the way up to Manajhi. From Manajhi the
scenery shifts a little between the Deodar forest and Rhododendron forest. The
walk though long is pleasurable and an assault on the senses. In the winter one
walks on snow so perfect it feels like sugar under the feet and in the summer the
same paths are covered with golden-orange leaves that crunch under the feet.
On this walk the rhythmic movement of the feet is accompanied by wild music
not just from the birds and crickets but also from the walking of the trekkers
who beat a rhythm that is almost divine.
Dodital – Dewara Top – Dodital
The trail from Dodital to Dewara Top is the only one that is on the tougher side.
However, the satisfaction that is afforded when one reaches the top and sees a
panoramic view of the Gharwal Himalayas more than makes up for the strained
muscles. The path after Dodital winds through a forest for a while and then
opens up into a high altitude meadow.
The Trek
8. This day is clearly the most spectacular and gives one images that get etched into
memory and create a place in our hearts for the mountains. A place that slowly
turns into a pull that almost magnetically attracts us back in to the mountains.
Dodital – Bhewara – Sangam Chatti
The way back is just as scenic and gorgeous as on the way up. Just a little easier
as the path is now a gentle incline and comes with the knowledge that our steps
take us with each moment a little closer home.
