2. Introduction
Brooke Kuecker works part-time as an office manager
for a cosmetic sales company while pursuing her
bachelor’s degree in health science. Prior to enrolling
in this undergraduate program, Brooke Kuecker
graduated from Lake Area Technical Institute with an
associates degree and worked as a licensed advanced
dental assistant in Florence, South Dakota.
3. Advanced Dental Assistant
Licensing
In South Dakota, an advanced dental assistant must be
licensed by the state, and performs certain functions that a
regular dental hygienist cannot. Aspiring advanced dental
assistants must complete an accredited dental education
program, take the Dental Assisting National Board
Certified Dental Assistant exam, or have certification in
another state.
If certification has been granted by another state, the State
of South Dakota Board of Dentistry must review and
approve the certification before one can begin practicing in
South Dakota.
4. Conclusion
CPR certifications are also required for advanced
dental assistants, and to perform anesthesia under
dentist supervision, one must apply for a separate
permit and go through additional training.
