2. What Should I Look For When I
Am Inspecting My AC Unit?
Switch off the breaker to isolate the power.
Check the mechanical and electrical components.
Take note of any loose wires, corroded contacts, signs of vermin or other red
flags
Clean up visible dust and change clogged filters.
Check to hear if your unit hums with a consistent tone. Upon hearing
unusual mechanical noises, you should consider repairing or replacing the
AC.
Test the thermostat to check the temperature of the air coming out of your
vents.
3. Why is My Air Conditioning Unit
Freezing Up?
Reasons for air conditioners to freeze up:
Improperly maintained older units often freeze up.
Restricted airflow over the internal components, caused by dust buildup
and clogged filters, prevents heat absorption capability of an AC unit.
Condensation trapped along the internal components freezes the AC unit.
Leaking refrigerant lines or internal damage to the working mechanical
components can create pressure zones, thereby freeze AC units.
4. Is it Normal For My AC Unit To
Have Condensation?
Yes, it is typical for an air conditioner. A lack of condensation indicates a
larger problem.
What Causes Condensation?
Temperature changes cause humidity to condense on the lines and other
components of an AC unit.
On some humid days, that condensation on the draining system causes water
stagnation under or near the AC. Consequently, water cannot escape and we
experience unpleasant smells and contamination. Upon detection of such
odors, you should contact an HVAC technician for a
professional inspection.
