3. WHAT ARE COMPUTERS ?
 Computer is a device that carry out arithmetic operations and
logics.

4. TYPES OF COMPUTER
Three types are:
 Analogue Computers
 Digital Computers
 Hybrid Computers

6. WHAT IS ANALOGUE ?
 Analogue is any quantity which varies continuously with time
such as temperature , speed etc.
 Analogue values are continuous and more accurate than digital
values.
 Analogue has infinite range of values.

8. WHAT ARE ANALOGUE COMPUTERS ?
 Analogue computers are form of computers that uses
continuously changeable physical quantity such as Electrical ,
Mechanical quantities instead of digits.
 They are used in measuring instruments.

10. HISTORY OF ANALOGUE COMPUTERS
 Early analogue computer was invented by William Thomson
in 1873.
 He invented Tide Predictor.

 Second analogue computer was developed by A.A Michelson in 1898.
 He built Harmonic Analyzer.

12. HISTORY OF ANALOGUE COMPUTERS
 The most important was Differential Analyzer in 1930 by Vannevar
Bush.
 This was used to solve differential equations.

13. INPUT AND OUTPUT
 Analogue computers do not require storage capability because
they compare quantities.
 Output is in the form of graph.
 These computers are used where data accepted directly from
measuring instrument.

14. WORKING
 Their basic component is an operational amplifier.
 It perform different operations such as summing , difference ,
inverse etc.
 Different types of amplifiers are use to perform complex
operations.

15. ADVANTAGES
 They are use in engineering and scientific applications for
measure analogue quantities.
 They are frequently used to control process such as those
found in oil refinery where flow and temperature
measurements are important.
 They are used for example in paper making and in chemical
industry.
 Analog computers are the first computers being developed
and provided the basis for the development of the modern
digital computers.

17. LIMIT
 Readings for real time is difficult to record .
 Digital computers can solve equations faster than analogue
computers.
 Range of analogue computers is limited and are difficult to
deal with accurately.
