This was the presentation, which I gave in the beginning of my workshop on Design Thinking in the local beathaus. The idea of the whole workshop was to introduce the design thinking methodology to the local community of creative professionals, startup people and corporate representatives. After the presentation I did the famous d.school workshop "The Wallet Experience". It's an interactive workshop that lasts for 90 minutes and takes the participants through all the phases of Design Thinking. It was amazing to see 100 people working with excitement. N.B. The presentation is mainly photos and examples of interesting design thinking projects. The most valuable part is the reading material at the end.

Coworking als Innovationsmotor im Allgäu?! Eine Machbarkeitsstudie im Rahmen der Coworking Testwochen in Kempten im Allgäu Von Berlin bis Bad Tölz gibt es bereits hunderte Coworking Spaces. Das sind kreative Orte, an denen Freiberufler, Vielreiser oder Firmenausreißer arbeiten, gemeinsam Pause machen und vernetzt denken können. In Großstädten werden diese Orte als Brutstädte der Arbeitsplätze von morgen gehandelt. Das Ziel der Testwochen des Coworking Space Kempten war es, herauszufinden, wie viel Nachfrage es für dieses Konzept in Kempten und im Allgäu gibt. Das Ergebnis: das Allgäu ist noch nicht so weit, auch wenn es sich viele wünschen würden. Aber: die Untersuchung zeigt, in welcher Weise es eventuell doch möglich wäre. Am 24. April um 10 Uhr präsentieren die Verantwortlichen für die Studie, Simon Schnetzer (Jugendforscher und Geschäftsführer der Fima DATAJOCKEY: Social Research & Dialogue) und Emina Sendic (Bachelor-Studentin der Hochschule Kempten, betreut von Fr. Prof. Katrin Stefan) die Ergebnisse der Studie. Der Titel der Präsentation lautet "Coworking als Innovationsmotor im ländlichen Raum: Eine Machbarkeitsstudie in Kempten im Allgäu, 2014". Von besonderem Interesse sind die Ergebnisse für Unternehmen und Selbständige in der Region, aber natürlich auch für die Abteilungen zur Wirtschaftsentwicklung in den Städten und Gemeinden. Ich hatte heute das Vergnügen und die Ehre im Rahmen der Technologietage der DSAG über Design Thinking zu sprechen. Speziell die Einbettung in vor allem technologisch orientierte Vorträge war eine spannende Umgebung für mich und Grund genug die Möglichkeiten und Vorteile von nutzer-zentrierter Innovation - wie sie mit Design Thinking möglich wird - aufzuzeigen. Ein sehr gelungener Besuch in Mannheim wie ich finde.

In increasingly complex times, innovation and collaboration skills are becoming vital to businesses, and both principles are essential in Design Thinking. This hands-on workshop will lead you through the design thinking process, taught by a design thinking professional that lives and breathes in this space. This two-part workshop series will introduce the fundamentals of human-centered design and how this approach can help develop innovative solutions for the complex challenges we face as businesspeople, creatives and entrepreneurs. During the fast paced sessions, you will be introduced to user centred design principles at the research, ideation and idea synthesis stage of the the design thinking process. We'll cover the theory then workshop through the practical aspects of each of the stages the the core Design Thinking process. Learn how to conduct simple user research studies and how to implement research-driven insights to help make better decisions and product improvements. Also covering the concept of convergent/divergent thinking, rapid problem solving and prototyping, and collaborative design. Students will also be introduced to key practical tools which are integral in the process such as research collection tools, distributed design collaboration, web based prototyping, and testing/measuring. Outcomes - Understand how to apply human-centered design principles to tackle complex challenges. - Identify new ways to serve and support people by uncovering latent needs, behaviours, and desires. - Learn specific techniques and tools to improve research, ideation, and prototyping.

Atelier on SITEM 2016, Paris The Beacon Heritage initiative for Flanders FARO, a not-for-profit organization that supports the cultural heritage in Flanders, just launched a new initiative: the Beacon Heritage Program. The purpose is to enable museum and local cultural organizations to create via a web-based CMS, interactive visiting tours using augmented reality and ibeacons. Visitors can use their own smartphone or tablet with a single mobile application. The thesis analyses how design processes can contribute to social innovation. Among these, self-production (hereafter defined with the Brazilian expression “produção pessoal”) is considered as the human-centred process held by the designer-maker who manages the entire process, from design, to production, distribution and communication. Despite the fashionable usage of the term self-production, the research goes back to the roots of the phenomenon, up to post-war self-construction, reaffirming the original social value of such a democratic design process. Through field research, worldwide approaches to produção pessoal are critically analysed, from Italian micro-entrepreneurship to Dutch digital fabrication to Brazilian artisans’ communities. Their strengths and weaknesses are outlined and design recommendations are defined. Produção pessoal seems to be an effective way to restart from the bottom and develop social micro-enterprises diffused on the territory. They are likely sustainable as they are local and flexible processes, tailored on human needs. Guidelines for the development of a platform (putting into system designers, producers and aware subjects) are defined, in order to make it contribute to the sustainable development of a territory, from an environmental, economic and social perspective.
