EKONOMI
to produce:
Berkaitan dengan pemanfaatan sumber daya (harus
efektif dan efisien = prinsip ekonomi)
Distribute (distribution):
Berkaitan dengan fungsi pemasaran
Different individuals:
sumberdaya (scarcity of resources)
Valuable goods and services:
Berkaitan dengan barang dan jasa yang berguna (bernilai)
bagi kehidupan manusia

PENGERTIAN:
What ought to be. What is good, and what is bad. Yaitu Ilmu Eonomi
yang berbicara bagaimana seharusnya. Misalnya tentang: Satisfactory
in society, preferences, feelings, standard housing, etc.
CONTOH:
- Satisfactory in society: Terpuaskannya masyarakat dalam
berbagai aspek, misalnya sarana umum yang memadai, fakir
miskin mendapat perhatian yang memadai, dst
- Preferences: kesukaan masyarakat terpenuhi
- Feelings: perasaan masyarakat terjaga
PARADOX OF GROWTH:
kehidupan. Misalnya: LPE tinggi tetapi pengangguran, dan
kemiskinan masih tetap tinggi, kualitas lingkungan semakin rusak,
dst.

CONTOH KONTEKS MODEREN:
Data laju pertumbuhan ekonomi (LPE),
inflasi, pengangguran, prediksi ekspor
dan impor, dst.
PENGERTIAN:
What is, was, or will be? Yaitu Ilmu Ekonomi
terjadi. Misalnya:
- performance of economic (kinerja ekonomi)
-predictions and precission (perkiraan dan
ketepatan)
- objective of science (tujuan ilmu pengetahuan)
13. KONSEP DASAR ILMU EKONOMI
1. Problem Ekonomi, 2. Prinsip Ekonomi, dan 3. Hukum Ekonomi
14. 1. PROBLEM
EKONOMI
PENGERTIAN:
Ketidakseimbangan antara kebutuhan manusaia
dengan alat pemuas kebutuhan manusia (barang dan
jasa)
CONTOH:
Inflasi, pengangguran, kemiskinan, defisit anggaran
negara, dst.
IMPLIKASI:
-Membutuhkan pengendalian harga-harga
- Meningkatkan investasi untuk membuka lapanan kerja
- Perlu melakukan efisiensi dan penegakan hukum agar
kebocoran bisa dihilangkan
- Mencari sumber-sumber pendanaan
- dst.
15. 2. PRINSIP
EKONOMI
PENGERTIAN:
1.Dengan pengorbanan tertentu ingin memperoleh hasil
maksimal
2.Dengan pengorbanan minimal ingin memperoleh hasil
tertentu
ANALISIS OPTIMASI:
tertentu (given)
(2)Minimumkan biaya (cost) agar diperoleh laba tertentu (sistem
target)
PENERAPAN:
1.Pada ekonomi: Dengan modal tertentu ingin diperoleh keuntungan
yang maksimal
2.Pada pendidikan: Dengan biaya kuliah tertentu ingin diperoleh IPK
paling tinggi
3.Pada politik: Dengan dana tertentu ingin diperoleh suara terbanyak
16. 3. HUKUM
EKONOMI
HUKUM PASAR (HUKUM PERMINTAAN-PENAWARAN):
1.Bila permintaan meningkat, sedangkan penawaran tetap atau
turun, maka harga barang cenderung meningkat (ceteris paribus);
2.Bila penawaran meningkat, sedangkan permintaan tetap atau
turun, maka harga cenderung menurun (ceteris paribus).
HUKUM PENAWARAN:
ditawarkan. Artinya bila harga barang naik, jumlah barang yang
ditawarkan cenderung meningkat, dan sebaliknya. Asumsi ceteris
paribus (faktor-faktor lain) tidak mempengaruhi, seperti: harga
input, tujuan perusahaan, teknologi, kebijakan pemerintah, harga
barang yang berkaitan, dst.
HUKUM PERMINTAAN:
paribus (the other being fixed), yaitu faktor laktor lain tetap (tidak
berpengaruh), seperti: tingkat pendapatan, harga barang lain yang
berkaitan, selera, jumlah penduduk, dst

1.
2
Asumsi: Ceteris paribus
18. PENERAPAN HUKUM PASAR:
1. Pada kasus Pasar Valas: Jika permintaan valas meningkat, sedangkan stok cadangan
defisa terbatas, maka harga valas akan meningkat. Misal kasus pada dolar US: ketika
permintaan dolar tinggi, sedangkan cadangan defisa menipis, maka rupiah akan ter-
depresiasi oleh dolar US.
2. Pada Harga Tertinggi dan Harga Terendah:
terigu, minyak goreng dst.
20. PENGERTIAN INFLASI:
Inflasi adalah kenaikan harga-harga secara umum
(menyeluruh/agregat) di semua sektor perekonomian (the
increasing of general price in all economic sectors).
Sektor perekonomian adalah pengelompokan aktifitas
ekonomi yang dilakukan pemerintah untuk berbagai
kepentingan (untuk melihat kontribusi sektoral,
produktifitas, pertumbuhan ekonomi, dst).

4. Listrik, gas dan air minum (electricity, gas and water supply)
5. Bangunan (construction)
6. Perdagangan, hotel dan restoran (trade, hotel & restourant)
7. Transportasi dan komunikasi (transportation &
communication)
8. Keuangan dan jasa bisnis (financial & business service)
9. Jasa (services)
22. PENYEBAB INFLASI:a.
berubahnya selera, (3) pergantian musim, (4) bertambahnya penduduk, (5) faktor lainnya.

naiknya tingkat upah, suku bunga, harga BBM, tarif dasar listrik (TDL), tarif telepon, dst. Naiknya biay

24. CARA
MENGATASI
INFLASI
MELALUI KEBIJAKAN MONETER:
Attempt to influence target variables by changing the money supply
or interest rates, or both (Gordon, 1993:G5)
MELALUI KEBIJAKAN FISKAL:
Attempt to influence target variables by manipulating government
expenditures and tax rates (Gordon, 1993:G3).
MELALUI KEBIJAKAN PRODUKSI:
Dengan kebijakan ini, pemerintah berupaya menekan inflasi
melalui perbaikan dari sisi supply, misalnya: (1) melalui perluasan
lahan baru, (2) pemberian subsidi, (3) pemberian bantuan bibit
yang murah, (4) melakukan impor untuk barang-barang tertentu,
dst.
MELALUI KEBIJAKAN KOMBINASI:
Kebijakan ini dilakukan secara simultan melalui beberapa
kebijakan secara bersamaan, misalnya pemerintah dapat
memberikan kemudahan kredit bagi para petani, keringanan
pajak, subsidi, dan pembukaan areal lahan baru
PERBAIKAN POLA DISTRIBUSI:
Dengan lancarnya distribusi (pasokan) diharapkan inflasi bisa
ditekan
25. PENGERTIAN:
Pengangguran adalah angkatan kerja yang berusaha mencari
pekerjaan tetapi belum mendapatkan pekerjaan

DEFISIT APBN
CARA MENGATASI DEFISIT APBN:
Peningkatan pajak, jual aset, efisiensi, pinjaman, dst.
STRUKTUR APBN:
I. PENDAPATAN:
1. Penerimaan Dalam Negeri
2. Hibah (berbagai bantuan yg diterima)
II. BELANJA:
1. Belanja Pemerintah Pusat
2. Belanja Daerah
III. KESEIMBANGAN PRIMER
IV. DEFISIT/SURPLUS (I-II)
V. PEMBIAYAAN
1. Pembiayaan DN
2. Pembiayaan LN
PENGERTIAN APBN:
Adalah rencana keuangan tahunan (1 Jan-31 Des)
pemerintahan negara Indonesia yang disetujui DPR RI
FUNGSI APBN:
Fungsi otorisasi, perencanaan, pengawasan, dan alokasi
31. PENERIMAAN DALAM
NEGERI
Terdiri atas:
1. Penerimaan Perpajakan:
1.1. Pajak Dalam Negeri: Pajak Penghasilan (PPh), Pajak Pertambahan
Nilai (PPN), Pajak Bumi dan Bangunan (PBB), Bea Perolehan Hak
atas
Tanah dan Bangunan (BPHTB), Cukai, dan pajak lainnya;
1.2. Pajak Perdagangan Internasional: Bea Masuk dan Tarif Ekspor
2. Penerimaan Negara Bukan Pajak (PNBP):
2.1. Penerimaan SDA (Migas dan Non Migas)
2.2. Bagian Laba BUMN
2.3. PNBP lainnya
32. BELANJA
NEGARA
Belanja Pegawai, Belanja Barang, Belanja Modal,
Pembiayaan Bunga Utang, Subsidi BBM dan non BBM,
Hibah, dan belanja lainnya;
2. Belanja Daerah, adalah belanja yang dibagi-bagi ke
Pemerintah Daerah, untuk kemudian masuk dalam
pendapatan APBD, terdiri: (1) Dana Bagi Hasil, (2) Dana
Alokasi Umum (DAU), (3) Dana Alokasi Khusus (DAK), dan
(4) Dana Otonomi Khusus
33. KONSEP KESEIMBANGAN DALAM APBN
Dalam tampilan APBN, dikenal dua istilah defisit anggaran,
yaitu : Keseimbangan Primer, dan Keseimbangan Umum (I-II,
lihat bagan)
Keseimbangan Primer adalah total penerimaan dikurangi
belanja tetapi tidak termasuk pembayaran bunga.
Kesembangan Umum (Defisit/Surplus) adalah total
penerimaan dikurangi total pengeluaran termasuk pembayaran
bunga.
34. PEMBIAYAAN
1. Pembiayaan Dalam Negeri: Pembiayaan Perbankan,
Privatisasi, Surat Utang Negara (SUN), serta penyertaan
modal negara;
1. Pembiayaan Luar Negeri:
a. Penarikan pinjaman luar negeri, terdiri atas pinjaman
program dan proyek;
b. Pembayaran cicilan pokok utang luar negeri, teridiri atas
jatuh tempo dan moratorium (penundaan)
35. SISTEM
EKONOMI
(ECONOMIC
SYSTEM)
PENGERTIAN:
Economic system is institutional means by which scarce
resources are allocated to satisfy the wants of society
KATA KUNCI DEFINISI (KEYWORDS):
Scarce resources, or allocation of resources

menjadi sistem ekonomi pasar. Bila dikuasai oleh negara sepenuhnya,
maka sistem ekonomi menjadi sistem ekonomi komando
(sosialiasis/komunis). Bila pemerintah dan swasta punya kuasa atas faktor
produksi, maka sistem ekonomi menjadi sistem ekonomi campuran
nilai Islam
38. PEMBAGIAN
SISTEM EKONOMI
1. MARKET ECONOMY:
Is one in which individuals and private firms make the
major decisions about production and consumption
2. COMMAND ECONOMY:
Is one in which the government makes all important
decisions about production and distribution
3. MIXED ECONOMY:
With elements or market and command
4. ISLAM:
Sistem ekonomi yang berdasarkan pada nilai-nilai
Islam
39. SISTEM EKONOMI INDONESIA
Sistem ekonomi Indonesia adalah demokrasi ekonomi (sistem ekonomi
campuran), cirinya :
Tidak boleh terjadi penumpukan aset pada seorang atau sekelompok orang;
Pengusaha lemah harus diberi prioritas dan dibantu;
dan harus memperoleh kesempatan utama, dukungan dst.;
dan koperasi;
Perbankan wajib membantu UMKM;
dst. (lihat Tap MPR No : XVI/MPR/1998)

Untuk Land adalah sewa (rent). Maksudnya,
manfaat yang dikorbankan kalau tanah itu
tidak digunakan ataupun digunakan oleh
pemiliknya adalah sewa
Untuk Capital adalah bunga (interest),
bila sistem ekonominya konvensional.
Untuk sistem ekonomi syariah, konsep
opportunity cost adalah semua produk
yang dijual dalam perbankan syariah

46. PRODUCTION
POSSIBILITY
FRONTIER (PPF)
or PPC
PENGERTIAN:
It represents the maximum amount of a pair of goods or
services that can both be produced with an economy ‘s
given resources, assuming that all resources are fully
employed (Samuelson-Nordhaus, 2010: 18)
PPF akan sangat berkaitan erat dengan teknologi,
knowledge, input (resources) yang digunakan dalam
suatu Negara atau Wilayah
KEGUNAAN:
Untuk melihat kemampuan produksi suatu negara,
sumberdaya yang dimiliki, tingkat efisiensi, dan teknologi
yang digunakan
The maximum amount of a pair goods or services
berkaitan erat dengan Aggregate Supply (AS) suatu
hanya dua jenis barang
KENAPA HANYA DUA JENIS BARANG:
Ini sebuah asumsi saja (penyederhanaan dunia nyata),
tujuannya agar analisis dapat dilakukan secara sederhana
dan mudah
RATE OF PRODUCT TRANSFORMATION (RPT):
RPT merupakan rasio (perbandingan) antara perubahan
salah satu barang untuk ditranformasi menjadi barang lain.
RPT = (ΔY/ΔX) = opportunity cost
OPPORTUNITY COST:
It is the benefits sacrificed because of the choosing another
alternatives. Samuelson (2010) defined : “It is also the value
of the best alternative use of an economic goods”
luar garis A-F.
(Pareto Efficiency/Pareto Optimalilty)
51. Pergeseran kurva PPC bisa disebabkan oleh perubahan
teknologi, investasi, kualitas SDM, dll. Implikasinya output
dan lapangan kerja meningkat.
54. PPF DAN EFFICIENCY
It occurs when an economy cannot
produce more of one good without
producing less of another good. This
implies that economy is on its PPF
(Samuelson-Nordhaus, 2010:13). It
refers to the Pareto optimality
Efficiency means that the
economy is on the frontier
rather than inside the PPF
55. TEORI
PARETO
SEJARAH PARETO:
Nama lengkapnya VILFREDO FEDERICO DAMASO PARETO; Ia
seorang sosiolog, ekonomo, filsuf kebangsaan Italia. Ia lahir
tahun 1848 di Paris. Ia seorang penulis aktif dan kritikus yang
handal. Ia merumuskan teori Pareto bersumber dari Nahjul
Balaghah karangan Imam Ali
PENGERTIAN:
1.Pareto Optimal (Pareto Efficient): An optimal allocation of resources
is achieved when it is not possible to make someone better off without
making someone else worse off;
2.Pareto Improvement (Pareto Superior): through reallocation of
resources, improvements to at least someone better of without making
someone else worse off;
3.Pareto Distribution: There is linier relationship between each income
level and the number of people who received more than that income.
Artinya terdapat hubungan yang searah antara masing-masing
tingkat pendapatan dengan jumlah orang yang menerima
pendapatan di atas itu. Semakin banyak orang yang menerima
pendapatan di atas rata-rata, maka semakin tinggi pendapatan rata-
rata kelompok tersebut
56. TEORI PARETO
BERKAITAN DENGAN
EKONOMI
NORMATIF
ALASAN:
Karena Teori Pareto berbicara kesejahteraan
yang seharusnya dicapai dalam masyarakat,
dan juga bicara persoalan efisiensi yang
harus dicapai (Pareto Optimal). Yaitu kondisi
ideal yang harus terjadi di masyarakat
CONTOH:
Ketika kebijakan publik (misal anggaran)
sengsara
UPAYA PERBAIKAN:
Jangan membuat gangguan terhadap
kebijakan yang sudah ditetapkan
57. DOKTRIN EKONOMI PASAR:
Pada tahun 1900an muncul doktrin “Laissez-faire”, artinya :
leave us alone (biarkan aku sendiri), atau “holds that
government interfere as little as possible in economic”. Ini
adalah doktrin kebebasan ekonomi (sistem ekonomi pasar);
Sistem ekonomi pasar melahirkan kegagalan pasar (market
failures), seperti : ineffiency, inequality, macroeconomic
problems, etc)
Karena terjadi kegagalan pasar, maka setelah tahun 1900an
muncul “welfate state”, yaitu sebuah doktrin yang
menghendaki perlunya campur tangan pemerintah dalam
perekonomian. Misalnya : pajak, subsidi, JPS, pensiun, dst.

Pasar (market) : “is a mechanism through which
buyers and sellers interact to set prices and exchange
goods, services and assets”
(Samuelson-Nordhaus, 2010:26)
63. MARKET EQUILIBRIUM:
Sehingga dicapailah
harga keseimbangan yang disepakati oleh penjuan
dan pembeli

• Banyak penjual dan pembeli
• Diperjual belikan barang sejenis (homogen)
• Bebas masuk-keluar pasar
• Pasar bersifat tranparan
• Terdapat informasi yang sempurna
PASAR PERSAINGAN TIDAK SEMPURNA:
• Pasar Monopoli

67. THE ECONOMIC ROLE OF
GOVERMENT
a. To increase efficiency = fungsi alokasi
perekonomian;
a. To promote equity = fungsi distribusi
perlu campur tangan pemerintah. Bentuk campur tangan misalnya dalam
bentuk penarikan pajak, pemberian subsidi dsb;
a. To faster macroekonomic growth and stability = fungsi stabilitasi
1. Growth : Sumber pertumbuhan, LPE, pertumbuhan dan kualitas
pembangunan, kebijakan fiskal dan moneter untuk mempercepat
pertumbuhan ekonomi;
2. Stability of economic : indikator stabilitas, kebijakan pemerintah
untuk stabilitas ekonomi, dst.
69. INTRODUCTION
The birth of macroeconomic (ME)
1. Founded by john Maynard Keynes 1930an
2. Central ME question :
a. Why do output and employment sometimes fall, and how
can unemployment be reduced;
b. What are the sources of inflation, and how can it be keft
under control; and
c. How can a nation increase its rate of economic growth
70. 0BJECTIVES AND INSTRUMENT OF MACROECONOMIC
No Objectives of MEP Instrument/Tools
1 Outputs : rapid growth of output Fiscal policy
2 Employment Fical policy/Monetary Policy
3 Price level stability Monetary Policy
4 Exchanges rates stability Monetary Policy
71. INTERNATIONAL LINKAGES
1. All nation participate in the world economy :
trade and finance (export and import)
1. Trade Policies : tariffs, quotas, etc.
2. International financial management (foreign exchange rates)
3. Exchange rates represents the price of its own currency in
terms of the currencies of other nations
72. AGGREGATE SUPPLY AND DEMAND (AS
AND AD)
1. AS refers to the total amount/quantity of goods and services that the
nations’s business willingly produce and sell in given period;
AS = f (Price Level, Prod Capacity of the ec, costs level).
AS dan P memiliki hubungan positif
1. AD refers to the total amount that different sectors in economy willingly
spend in given period (sektor
perekonomian : consumers, bussines, government, foreigners);
AD = f (price level, Monetary Policy, Fiscal Policy, etc)

81. 1. GROS DOMESTIC PRODUCT (GDP) or PDB
Definition : “it is the sum of the dollar values of consumption
(c), gross investment (I), government purchases of good and
services (G), and net export (X-M) produced within a nation
during a given year”
(Samuelson, 2002:434)
AS = GDP = C + I + G + (X-M) = AD
The purposes of measuring GDP is to measure the overall
performance of an economy.
82.
83. 2. THE METHOD OF MEASURING
GDP
a. Production approach (value added approach)
value added is the different between a firm sales and its purchases of
materials (cost of intermediate products) from other firms.

Components of GDP : Earning or Cost as sources of GDP :
Consumption (c) + Gross Private

Government Purchases (G) + Net
Export (X-M)
Wages, salaries, & other labor
income + interest, rent, & other
property income + Indirect takes +
Deprecation +Profit
Equals : Gross Dom Product Equals : Gross Dom Product
85. 3. THE PROBLEM OF THE COUNTING
We defined GDP as the total production of final goods and
services. A final product (goods) is one that is produced and
sold for consumption or investment. GDP excludes
intermediate goods (i.e.goods that are used up to produced
other goods). GDP therefore includes bread but not wheat, and
home computers but not computer chips.
If bread and wheat sumed in the economic activity, the double
counting is happened
86. 4. DETAILS OF THE NATIONAL ACCOUNTS
1. Nominal GDP (GDP at market prices/current prices)
2. Real GDP (GDP at constant prices):
is multiplying the quantities of goods by fixed set of prices, or Q =
real GDP = Nominal GDP divided by GDP deflator = PQ/P.
GDP deflator = (Nominal GDP/real GDP)= general prices
= Index number of prices
1. The kinds of the price indexes :
Consumers Price Index (CPI), atau IHK
Producers Price Index (PPI or IHP) is the price index of goods sold at the
wholesale level (such as steel, wheat, oil, etc) (Samuelson, 2002:774)
GDP deflator
87. 5. COMPONENT OF GDP
1. Consumption (c) :
Durable goods : automobiles, motorcycles, etc.)
Nondurable goods : food, drink, etc.)
Services (medical care, bank, etc.)
1. Investment and capital formation (I) :
Physical investment (additional capital stock)
Financial investment (using money to buy stock, or open a saving account)
1. Government expenditures (G) :
Payroll expenditures on its employees
Gross investment/public goods
Office equipment, etc. (excluded : transfer payments)
1. Net export (X-M) : It is measurement of inter linkages
88. 6. FROM GDP TO DISPOSABLE INCOME
(DI)
GDP = C + I + G + (X-M)
NI = National Income
NI = GDP – (Deprecation + Indirect Taxes)
DI = Disposable Income
= NI – (Direct Taxes + Net Business Saving) + Tr
Or :
NI = w + r + i + TT
GDP = NI + Deprecation + Indirect Taxes
Notes : w = wages, r = rent, i = interest, TT = Profit
See diagram below :
91. 7. BEYOND THE NATIONAL ACCOUNT
1. Omitted nonmarket activities : meals, loundering, child care
services, etc.
2. Omitted environment damages
3. Calculation is normally in averages, etc.
93. 1. DEFENITIONS. Consumption is expenditures by household on final goods
and services (Samuelson, 2002:455). Component of consumption : durable
goods, non-durable goods, and services.
2. THE CONSUMPTION FUNCTION. It show the relationship between the
level of consumption expenditures and the level of disposable income,
C = f (Yd), or C = a + b Yd, or C =f (Yd, Wealth, population,…)
b is marginal propencity to consume (it is the first order conditions of C).
1. THE SAVING FUNCTION. It shows the relationship between the level of
saving and the level of disposable personal income.
Look at the leakages, or expenditure sides national income :
Y = C + S + T + M, for the simple (close) economy Y = C + S, or S = Y – C,
where S = -a + (1-b) Yd; for (1-b) = marginal propencity to save (MPS). It can
be wrote by MPC + MPS = 1, or : APS + APC = 1
94. 1. THE BREAK EVENT POINT (BEP). Is the stated by the
condition of Y = C, or S = 0 - a + (1-b) Y = 0 Y = (a/1-b)
2. INVESTMENT OR REAL INVESTMENT. (1) It is an
economic activity that forgoes consumption today with an eye
increasing output in the future. It includes tangible capital such
as houses and intangible investment such as education. Net
investment is the value of total investment after an allowance has
been made for depreciation. Gross investment is investment
without allowance for depreciation;
(2) In finance terms, investment has an altogether different
meaning and denotes the purchase of a security, such as a stock
or a bond
95. 1. DETERMINANT OF INVESTMENT
I = f (Y, Cost, Expectation,…)
Y = GDP (revenue); Cost = interest rates; Expectation is profit
expectation (ROI)
Investment demand curve. It shows the relationship between the
returns on investment (ROI) and investment
expenditures/demand (I)
98. 1. THE BASIC MULTIPLIER MODEL
Multiplier on expenditure multiplier is the increase in GDP that would
result from a $ 1 increase in expenditures (say, on investment)
(Samuelson, 2002:771).
The multiplier model explains how shocks to investment, foreign trade,
and government tax and spending policies can affect output and
employment in an economy.
it is formulated by :
∆Y adalah perubahan output (pendapatan nasional) yang diakibatkan
oleh perubahan pengeluaran otonom (∆O = increase in expenditures );
b adalah marginal propencity to consume (MPC).

103. 1. MONEY
1.1. EVOLUTION OF MONEY
What is money? Money is anything that serves as a commonly accepted
Medium of exchange.
The history of money :
a. Barter : The exchange of goods for other goods;
b. Commodity money : money is a medium of exchange first come into
human history in the form of commodities. Example : olive oil, beer or
wine, cooper, iron, gold, silver, cigarettes etc.;
c. Modern money : We do not wish to consume money directly;
rather, we use it by getting rid of it. Even when we choose to keep
money, it is valuable only because we can spend it later on. It consist of :
coins, paper currency, checking account, and near money.
104. Components of the money supply
a. Narrow (transaction) money (M1)
One important and closely watched measure of money is narrow or transaction
money, which consists of items that are actually used for transaction. The
following are components of M1 : coins (include coins not held by banks),
paper currency (uang kertas), checking accounts (there funds, deposited in
bank and other financial institutions, on which you can write checks.
a. Broad money
Sometimes called near money, M2 includes M1 as well as saving accounts in
bank and similar assets that are very close substitutes for narrow money. So, it
can be formulated as : M2 = M1 + saving accounts
105. 1.2 INTEREST RATES : THE PRICE OF MONEY
a. It can be divided by :
Nominal interest rates. It is amount of interest paid per unit of time expressed as a percentage
of amount borrowed. In other words, people must pay for the opportunity to borrow money;
Real interest rates. It is calculated as the nominal interest rate minus the rate of inflation.
a. Present value money
It is the dollar (Rp) value today of a stream of income overtime. It is
determined by calculating how much money invested today would be needed,
at a going interest rate, to generate the asset’s future stream of receipts. Look
the following formula :
v is the present value of assets; N1 is the net receipts
(positive or negative) in period of 1, and so forth; i is the one
period of markets interest rate assumed to be constant.

106. 1.3. THE DEMAND FOR MONEY
1.2.3. The keynes demand for money
a. Transaction (motive) demand for money
b. Precautionary (motive) demand for money
c. Speculative (motive) demand
1.2.4. The cost of holding money
It is sacrifice in interest that you must incur by holding money
rather than a riskier , less liquid asset or investment
1.2.5. Two sources of money demand
a. Transaction demand for money.
why do people need money?
the primary reason it that people’s incomes and expenditures do not come at the
same time;
a. Asset demand
It refers to financial economics , which analyzes how investors should invest
their funds to attain their objectives in the best possible manner . In general, a
well –constructed portfolio (or combination of assets) will contain low-risk
investments as well as riskier ventures.
107. 2. BANKING AND THE SUPPLY OF
MONEY
a. Banking as business
Bank and other financial intermediaries are much like other
business. They are organized to earn profits for their owner.
It provides certain services for customers and in return
receives payments from them.
a. Legal reserve requirements
In modern banking, bank reserves are held either as cash on
hand or as deposits with the central bank. In fact, banks
today set aside about 10 percent of their checking deposits in
reserves.

111. c.3. The Money Supply Multiplier
It is the ratio of the increase in the money supply (or in deposits)
to the increase in bank reserves. Generally, the money-supply
multiplier is equal to the inverse of the required reserve ratio.
Money multiplier = (change of money)/(Change of reserves)
= (1/0.1) = 10
Therefore :
Change of money = (1/RR) x Changes of reserves
112. 3. FINANCIAL
ECONOMICS
a. Definitions
It studies how rational investors should allocate their funds to attain their
objectives in the best possible manner. It is an exciting field of economics
-and a crutial one for people who want to invest their fund wisely.
a. Menu of Financial Assets
Money;
Saving accounts;
Government securities;
Equities are ownership rights to companies;
Financial derivatives are new forms of financial instruments whose values
and based on or derived form the value of other assets;
Pension fund represent ownership in the assets that held by companies or
pension plans. Workers and companies contribute to these fund during
working years, and the fund are then drawn down to pay pensions during
retirements.
113. a. Risk and Return on Different Assets
The rate of return in the total dollar gain from a security (measured as a
percent of the price at the beginning of the period):
For savings account and short-term bond, the return would be the interest rate;
For most other asset, the return combines an income (like dividends) with a
capital gain or loss, which represents the increase or decrease in the value the
assets.
a. The Stock Market
It is the place where the shares in publicly owned companies, the titles to
business firm are bought and sold.
a. Efficient Market and the Random Walk
An efficient financial market is one where all new information is quickly
understood by market participations and become immediately incorporated into
market prices;
An random walk. The price follows a random walk when its movements over
time are completely unpredictable.
