1. What are the types of questions in the Exam?
The PMP® Exam is a four hour, 200 multiple
choice questions exam. It includes different
types of questions such as situational,
knowledge, formula, interpretational, and
ethics based questions. Each question comes
with its own set of challenges and one must
get used to all types of these questions. The
Project Management Institute will examine
one’s ability to analyse, apply informational
logically, and use their mathematical,
management, and leadership skills.
Situational questions test your theoretical knowledge with realistic
situations. In this type of question, you will be given a situation and
asked to find the best answer for that situation. Often these
questions are quite lengthy with relevant and irrelevant information
that the candidate must be able to separate and eliminate.
Situational questions offer choices that will seem reasonable.
However, it is vital that you are able to identify the best option.
Knowledge-based questions test your factual knowledge of the
PMBOK® Guide. In this type of question, you may be asked to select
the correct Input, Tool & Technique, or Output for a given process.
Knowledge based question may also ask you to identify an example
chart or graph, such as recognizing a RACI or Pareto chart. They can
also ask you to identify the meaning of a project management
scenario based on the information provided. These can often be the simple content
based questions that test definitions such as risk, secondary risk,
residual risk, etc. Our app ‘PMP® Exam Mentor’ can be used to
learn, memorise and revise your knowledge of the PMBOK®. The
app, based on PMBOK® fifth version provides content about
knowledge areas, process groups, glossary, and project framework
for you to learn from and apply in the exam.
Formula-based questions test your memorisation and application
of around 50 formulas. You must know both the formula and plug
the values in the formula in order to get the answer. Formula based
questions are really good in multiple-choice PMP® questions. Thus,
it is of vital importance that you learn these formulas inside out and
to actively practice using the formulas. Our free app ‘PMP® Exam
Mentor’ is an excellent source to learn, revise, and cement your
2. knowledge about the formulas and help you prep for the exam. The app provides 66
formulas for you to learn from and apply in the exam.
Interpretational questions test comprehension abilities to a condition. They provide a
description of a condition that requires analysis to find the correct answer.
Ethics questions- Questions are based on
based on PMI code of ethics and professional
conduct. They test ethical knowledge of
candidates. Thus, you might see these types
of questions in the exam.
The questions in the list provided above test
a candidate’s mathematical, situational,
ethical, interpretational, and content
knowledge. Thus, you need to practice as
many questions as you can and as many
times possible. Download our free ‘PMP®
Exam Mentor’ app to practice and test your
