• Rationale: Mispronunciation, new vocabulary, remember or identify
facts, and distinguish the tone of voice by native vocabulary in
context phrases and well-pronounced sentences.

Objectives:
• Students will develop skills in listening for specific information
• Students are able to watch and listen to a segment of a sitcom in other for them to
grasp words and meanings accurately
• Students are able to get updated with new vocabulary
• Students will learn that listening comprehension has the purpose to enhance their
pronunciation by being exposed to the Target language
• Students are able to develop their critical thinking and will display comprehension
of what they listen by means of the online activity
Lesson Plan – Listening ComprehensionLesson Plan – Listening Comprehension
Contents – Class Activity or Procedures:  
1. The instructor greets or introduces the class and asks them a general question: Which is your 
favorite TV show? 
2. Students are asked to watch and listen to a video about part of one of the episodes of Friends 
TV show (no subtitles) and are given instruction of next listening online activities. 
3. Students are asked to guess the gist and content by means of True or False statements and are 
asked to look for the antonym of some words in regards of the episode.
4. The instructor will give a short feedback to the students and assign the activity for next class. 
 Time: 20 minutes
1. 3 minutes
2. 5 minutes
3. 10 minutes
4.  2 minutes

Materials:
 
• Speakers
• Computers with Internet access
• A 3-min audio tape about Friends TV Show
• English Exercises Web site – “Bruce Willis on Friends”
Assessment:
 
• The online activity consists on different true or false questions. The students have to 
complete a segment using some terms in the video by finding the opposite word for 
each one.

Listening Skills Rubric
• Excellent –5– Clear understanding of listening skills through body language and eye contact
• Proficient –4– The student is attentive and courteous; purposefully and confidently listens to the 
presentation  
• Satisfactory –3– Adequately involved in activities related to the presentation
• Lack of Improvement –2– The student shows difficulty in understanding the listening activity. The 
student is easily distracted, lacks confidence, insecure member of the group; cannot get ideas clearly. 
Tone or nonverbal behavior inappropriate for the occasion 
• Unsatisfactory –1– The student is unable to identify features, tone and cannot understand the gist 
and content of the audio tape. There is an inadequate or inappropriate use of listening skills. The 
student is uninvolved in the activity and lacks courtesy
