Emerging technologies in Careers The growth of the internet, its accessibility to the general public and the ease with which we can now so easily edit the web ourselves (web 2.0) has meant that students and graduates are online more and more. Employers have much more web presence. We need to be using new web 2.0 features and engaging with students more and more
This took me very much by surprise as I love using Google. However, when I thought about it, I do follow links that friends, peers, and people whose blogs I follow recommend I may still use Google more but what about our students? We know that very many of them love being on Facebook…maybe they follow recommendations more than they search for themselves Food for thought and I will return to the theme

With a small group we did not want to create too much extra work. One CA writes for the student paper a brief article on a Career topic. We decided to use this as a post in a blog – some feedback from students Manchester Uni Careers have several blogs and CAs submit posts regularly Students do feedback but not in large numbers We have an archive of e-guidance emails that CAs have sent to individual students that can be made anonymous and then re-used for blog posts

Technology lets us reliably stream videos. We have built up a library of videos to support the CAs. IT systems and Media Resources have co-operated to support these activities WVN – Using video conferencing to hold meetings with the AGCAS ICT Working group Set up Skype with some members of staff with an idea to support graduates (but not yet)
