"With rapid demand increase of agricultural products and more importance attached by Chinese government to agriculture industry, China’s fertilizer industry will usher many new development opportunities, especially for high-end compound fertilizers and new-type fertilizers. To figure out the current situation and prospect of fertilizer industry in China, this report widely covers information about raw materials, production and consumption situation, competitive analysis, future forecast, governmental policies and main producers, etc.
At present, overcapacity of China’s nitrogenous, phosphate and compound fertilizer industries has leaded to serious imbalance between supply and demand, thus integration stage of these industries is coming. Besides, the high energy consumption in the production process and low usage rate of fertilizer need to be improved urgently. In China, almost all fertilizer manufacturers are domestic enterprises with most of them being state-owned enterprises who have received great support from government.
Fertilizer market in China is enjoying promising prospect and CCM provides you an insight analysis on the following aspects:
To provide an overview of fertilizer industry in China;
To understand the position of fertilizer sector in China's agriculture industry;
To know the raw materials of fertilizer production;

Executive summary:
China is a large producer and consumer of fertilizer in the world and accounts for XXX of global
fertilizer consumption. At present, the main fertilizers in China are nitrogenous, phosphate, potash, and
compound fertilizers. In 2008, China’s fertilizer production and consumption reached a record high, with

total output of XXX million tonnes and consumption of XXX million tonnes. The total sales revenue
reached USDXXX million in 2008.
However, China chemical fertilizer market in 2008 witnessed slower growth rate than two years ago, as
global economic turmoil since the second half of 2008 has obviously affected the performance of
Chinese fertilizer industry. It is rebounding gradually from around the first half of 2009 with China’s
economic recovery, as statistics shows. In the first half of 2009, fertilizer output exceeded XXX million
tonnes, up XXX over the same period of 2008 and average operation rate is higher than that of 2008.
However, market value of China’s fertilizer industry decreased a lot in 2009, mainly due to low
profitability caused by overcapacity, rising price of raw material while decreasing product price.
China is the largest nitrogenous fertilizer producer and exporter in the world, with urea and ammonium
bicarbonate as the main products. Through more than 60 years’ development, China’s nitrogenous
fertilizer capacity is predicted to reach XXX million tonnes (100%N) by the end of 2009, among which
XXX million tonnes (100%N) is urea capacity. Given resource shortage, Chinese government has
made policies to restrain nitrogenous fertilizer export.
China is also one of the largest phosphate fertilizer producers in the world, with DAP, MAP and TSP as
the main products. China has been a net exporter of phosphate fertilizer since 2007. In 2008, total
output and export of phosphate fertilizer reached XXX million tonnes (100%P2O5) and XXX million
tonnes (100%P2O5) respectively..
As to potash fertilizer, China relies heavily on import because of potash ore shortage. Though Chinese
potash fertilizer industry has made great progress and self-sufficiency has exceeded XXX, import
volume is still increasing.
China’s fertilizer consumption structure has changed obviously from that in early 2000s. Phosphate
fertilizer and potash fertilizer are capturing larger market shares; high concentration fertilizer has been
replaced low concentration one to be the dominant product; compound fertilizers are being used more
and more. With more agricultural knowledge and growing income, Chinese peasants are using more
and more fertilizers with high value, high quality and high efficiency.
With the opening of Chinese fertilizer market since 2006, competition has become increasingly intense
since a large number of overseas products with strong competitiveness have entered Chinese market.
Besides intensifying competition from overseas players, resource shortage and environmental pollution
are also great challenges to the healthy and sustainable development of China’s fertilizer industry.
Industry upgrade will be the way for China to achieve such development goal.
