UNAS (the acronym stands for the translation of “The National Union of
Dentists’ Associations”) Executive Board wanted to implement a
modern online training platform that would allow live video
communication between a group of experts and dentists throughout
the country to discuss best treatment approaches. UNAS selected
Data Center Solutions as a consultancy and implementation
provider.
Data Center Solutions is a company with over 6 years of experience in business critical projects, web based
applications and security services. We are focused on offering e-Learning and webinar applications as SaaS
(Software as a service) to our customers.

4. The Solution
Project phase I
After identifying the project requirements and the challenges, Data Center Solutions decided the implementation of an open
source online video communication tool (OpenMeetings) integrated with a custom collaboration module. The implementation
consisted in several phases:
Gathering of requirements and elaboration of the project specification
During the early stages of the project, Data Center Solutions gathered the project requirements from the UNAS
1 Executive Board and created the project specification. A special attention was placed to the collaboration
workflow and to select the most suitable video communication platform. After testing several video
communication platforms, Data Center Solutions decided to implement a custom solution starting from the
open source OpenMeetings.

5. The Solution
Project phase II
Open Meetings customization
OpenMeetings is a free browser-based software that allows you to set up instantly a conference in the Web.
2 You can use your microphone or webcam, share documents on a white board, share your screen or record
meetings. While on paper it looked exactly like the needed solution, the actual implementation needed a great
deal of customization:
• Interface optimization to streamline the usage, specific to the workflow requirements
• Integration with the look & feel of UNAS brands
• Translation of the interface elements into Romanian
• Various image compression optimizations to decrease connectivity requirements while keeping a high
quality video transmission
• Implementation of custom user roles to match the capabilities required by the training process.

6. The Solution
Project phase III & IV
Custom collaboration engine
One of the most interesting aspects of the implementation was the creation of the custom collaboration
3 module. Data Center Solutions created from scratch a solution that allowed:
• New accounts creation with approval mechanisms
• Creation of new video communication sessions
• Submitting a new case for examination that allows asynchronous exchange of medical information,
images, documents and presentations between the dentists and the group of experts
• Allocation of examination subjects per video training sessions
• Allocation of user rights accordingly to the participation at the training sessions.
Training and documentation
Following the requirements from the UNAS Executive Board, Data Center Solutions also provided extensive
