Hackers!
Celene Harrelson
WordPress security is a serious thing.
If you are not worried about the security of your blog, you should be. It’s very possible that hackers are trying
to get into your site at this very minute! It’s never 100% saf e, but you can sure make it very hard f or those
nasty bastages to gain access by doing a f ew simple things.
1. Be sure to make your user name something other than Admin. If that’s what your log in username is,
hackers are already half way home if you get targeted and trust me – you are targeted daily! If you don’t
believe me, go to your hosting account and take a look at how many attempted log ins there are a day to your
site. I assure you it’s WAY more than you logged in.
The way to change your user/admin name is to set up a new admin user prof ile in your WordPress dashboard.
Then log out and log back in with the new admin log in. Once you are logged in, delete the original one that
used Admin as the user name.
Now hackers will have to work twice has hard to gain access to your site. Yay, score one f or you!
2. Change your password often. Don’t make it easy like “yoursite123.“ It should be something with with
upper case and lower case letters, numbers and symbols like #$%^&!. I know those are harder to remember or
keep track of , but it’s worth it. I use Robof orm to keep track of all of my log in inf ormation. I don’t even have to
think about it.
Here’s a f ree trial f or Robof orm
3. Add a good security plug in to your WordPress blog like:”

You don’t need them all, but a combination of one or 2 won’t hurt. Simply go to your WP dashboard, then, plug
ins, add plugins and type the name in. Always check when the last update was installed, reviews, etc bef ore
deciding whether you want to install or not.
4. Keep WordPress, plugins and themes updated. Of ten there is an update because of security issues.
Don’t take any chances.
5. Backup your blog regularly. There are all kinds of good backup plugins to keep your data saf e. You can
have the backups sent to your server or email address. Backup of ten!
Just a little bit of due diligence will go a long way in keeping those hatef ul buggers out of your business!
Don’t be a slacker or you’ll attract hackers!
