We have received positive feedback from our beta customers.They are particularly excited about the Autodesk Inventor Interoperability and RapidRT.We will have a look at the new features in detail, but the bottom line is: Showcase 2012 delivers three important things:Easier to useAutomatic interoperation with Inventor10x faster raytracing
Before we start diving into the features themselves, let’s have a look at the product line.First, we have a free version of Showcase, Showcase Viewer, which can be downloaded from the Showcase product center at autodesk.com. Showcase Viewer allows anybody to view and navigate Showcase scenes. This is very useful when our Showcase customers want to send their designs to their own customers who don’t work with Showcase. Their customers will be able not only to see the model, but also to play with it, change alternatives themselves and play the storyboards that their provider will have prepared for them.The ”regular” flavor of Showcase is targeted to architects, designers, engineers and managers who need to present their designs and transform their 3D CAD data into compelling imagery, movies, and immersive presentations that can be used for interactive design reviews, marketing imagery, and sales pitches. Lastly, Showcase Professional 2012 software is designed for specialized display environments involving multiple-screen displays, high-speed raytracing clusters, stereoscopy, and remote session sharing. We’ll have a look at the detailed features on Showcase Professional in aminute. Showcase Professional is licensed through Autodesk Consulting.
Here is the list of features included in Showcase Professional 2012, in addition to the Showcase 2012 features, all the features from Showcase Professional 2011 are included.
As we already said, the Inventor Interoperability is a very important enhancement of the 2012 release.You cannow automaticallycreate a Showcasescenefrom an Inventor file, completewithanimatedconstraints. This saves a lot of time and effort, and no priorknowledge of Showcaseisrequired to makethiswork.
Rapid RT photorealsiticraytracing is now up to 10x faster, and generally more precise.
Showcase reads Autodesk Materials from AutoCAD, Revit, Inventor, and 3ds Max Design
Smart walk-throughs. This feature is most relevant for architecture.Showcase now features the Autodesk SteeringWheels Walk, that you can use to walk naturally around architectural scenes. You can navigate up or down stairs, or remain on the ground level; avoid walls and other obstacles.
The Quick Start wizards are more particularly relevant to new users. We introduced this feature so that users new to Showcase can be productive almost immediately. The Quick Start wizards guide users through common workflows in 2-6 steps, helping them accelerate time to completion and reach a successful finish. Generate ambient shadows automatically, or choose to manually insert prebaked ambient shadows, depending on priorities (effort, frame-rate, quality).
Real-timegeometry-on-geometryshadowsisanotherfeaturethatimprovesreal-time photorealism. It results in higher- quality shadows in large/architectural scenes, and once again, users can fine-tune shadows depending on priorities (frame-rate, quality, context)
NPR effects make it easier to communicate visually early in the design process (designers don’t necessarily want to convey a “finished” look, as they want the audience to focus on the design intent).NPRs effects include: Flat Color, Toon Color, Shaded Textures, Tech, Realistic with EdgesThe Styles user interface aggregatesall rendering styles in one view, making it quicker and easier to explore options.
