Topic: Regional Research on Climate Indices and Trends for Improved Tools to
Support Decision Making in Agriculture and Food Security and Adaptation in Africa
Research: Using CLIMSOFT Africa Climatological Data Management Systems
(ACDMS) Desk at ACMAD for enhanced climate services, undertake research on
development of climate indices and trends to validate climate change (CC)
scenarios at different horizons and also as crucial elements for improved climate
forecasts and better local assessments of impacts and vulnerability to communities
and for applications in climate risk management by farmers and other stakeholders
as well as catalyse support to communities through index insurance and promote
policy decision making for mitigation and development of appropriate adaptation
strategies to build climate resilient economies and livelihoods in Africa.
ACMAD with NMHSs and Partners organizes annually the Regional Climate Outlook
Forums (RCOFs) preceded by Pre-Forum Training Workshops on development and
applications of climate forecasting tools in seasonal forecasting, forecasts
verification, models downscaling and climate change scenarios with associated
impacts on agriculture and food security.
