1. Waste Management in Jahangirnagar University
Make it Habit
Rational
Over six million people live in Dhaka and each day they produce over 3,000 tons of household
waste. Yet the Dhaka City Corporation collects less than half of it. The rest remains on
roadsides, in open drains and in low-lying areas. This has a negative impact on the city’s
environment. Dhaka City is becoming dead for living day by day. City dwellers don’t care about
the waste even though it makes their life miserable. In the point of fact, the city waste has
become one of the main problems in Bangladesh. Unfortunately, people have made the city more
pollute by throwing waste `whimsically. Now, it needs to make a habit to manage our own waste
by ourselves.
A waste management project will be addressing this problem. A massive clean-up as well as
related campaign through awareness building, poster, leaflet, banner, documentary screening,
and seminar will be making a habit to manage waste.
Why this Project is Unique?
Previously, many clean-up campaigns have taken in Jahangirnagar University in particulate and
in Bangladesh in general. But, it weren’t followed up. We just clean the campus and couple of
days later it turns its old face. This project will be following the works that will be done. As well
as, massive campaigns will be conducting to aware the people until it become a habit to put
waste in dustbin or in right places.
Why Jahangirnagar University?
Jahangirnagar University is the only residential campus in Bangladesh. Like the other people the
student of this university are not aware about waste. Instead of putting waste in dust bin they just
throw it on road or here and there. “Make it Habit” with this slogan a project on waste of
Jahangirnagar University is shaped to set up an example in Bangladesh so that other can follow.

3. How to Measure
It is mentioned earlier that this project will set up an example for all in 2012. Other people will
be following this example.
People especially in Jahangirnagar University will not through any waste whimsically. As well
as, there will be a quantitative survey to identify the ratio of using dustbin/recycle bin before and
after the project. And commonly, no waste/rubbish will be seen in Jahangirnagar University. It
--
will be a habit to put waste in right place.
Feasibility
It’s hard to break the existing system. May be my fellows will be making fun of us
Budget
Always hard to motivate people to break their old habit
