8:07 VickiKey Points came fromWhen developing a Social Media Policy or guideline it needs to be LogicalEveryone around the table needs to understand the process and if it can be sustainable, etc.
Vicki – The policy/guidelines needs to deliver a ClearMessage – language that everyone can understand and support
Vicki –What has been developed needs to be Communication – this key – post it – print it – speak it – need to remember to consider the veteran staff as well as the new hires
Vicki – Once the policy has been created it needs to be adheredto the plan – stay true to the plan – to point
Review and UpdateDone yearly – towards end of school year – summer time to rework – communicated during the Fall Workshop, etc.
Vicki - Policy– history -- Rules – Went to the board once - they wanted more specificsDeveloped the training manual (modeled after PLV) – Kathi will discuss more on this laterCommunicated through Admin – Required training – websiteSocial Media Log Explain about the Facebook “hot line”
Relate Rebecca’s story – Omaha PD – have a Facebook page – when a video went viral about how police handled an arrest – the OPPD let the “chatter” occur – they monitored and only took down posts that were inappropriate – but allowed the conversation to occur. After one week – they posted that they would no longer take posts on that subject – and from that point forward they would be taken down. ----leads into the next slideThis article discusses a similar situation in Hawaii – only they took down posts – sued for First Amendment Rights

Vicki –Do not recreate the wheel – tap into the available resources –Kathi will walk you through our resources we made available to our teachers and staff development that was put into place.
KathiWe had always delivered TE to new staff – but realized that veteran staff had not heard this message for quite a while – thus this online course was created.
Kathi – Audited the completion of this course for all salaried staff – was at the discretion of the Bldg. Admin if their hourly staff needed to complete the course.
Kathi –Based on the handbook developed by PLV – we wrote our own handbook. It is currently in the revision stages.
