What is Optical Fiber?
 A hair thin cylindrical fiber of glass or any
transparent dielectric medium
 Uses light pulses to transmit information
down fiber lines.
 Its function is to guide visible and infrared
lights over long distances.
History
 The term fiber optics was coined by Indian
physicist Narinder Singh Kapany.
 Fiber optics was first demonstrated by Daniel
Colladon and Jacques Babinet in Paris in the early
1840s.
 The first working fiber-optical data transmission
system was demonstrated by German
physicist Manfred Börner at Telefunken Research Labs
in Ulm in 1965.
 NASA used fiber optics in the television cameras that
were sent to the moon.

 Hence, OFCs has been growing day to day and
is expected to grow more in further years.
