Parents are the key to education and need tremendous support to provide their families with the best possible opportunity for success. Parents and their supporters on the Southside of Chicago are invited to attend a series of workshops as part of the Parent University program sponsored by the Bronzeville, South Shore and Englewood Community Action Councils. Workshops include: Violence Prevention by Iona Calhoun-Batiste of the Community Violence Prevention Collaborative Successful Parent / Teacher Conferences by Mike Wilson, CPS Teacher Parent Organizing in a Global Context by John Owens of Centers for New Horizons Peace Circles and Restorative Justice by Courtney Kimble, Professor and Attorney There will also be a Resource Fair featuring over 15 agencies offering a variety of social services. Childcare is available featuring face painting and storytelling for young children to make it easier for parents to participate in the workshops. Children’s activities are presented by the Chicago Public Library and The Chicago Children’s Museum. Breakfast and lunch will be served and prizes will be raffled throughout the day.
