INPUT AND OUTPUT DEVICES
By: Chirag Patil
INPUT DEVICES
OPTICAL & WIRELESS MOUSE
A computer mouse is handheld input device use to move
the cursor to different items on the screen. It has two
buttons Left Button and Right Button along with Scroll
Wheel in between two.
SIMPLE & WIRELESS KEYBOARD
A computer keyboard is an input device used to enter
characters and functions by pressing keys. Some
keyboard has 84 keys while some has 101 keys.
MIDI KEYBOARD
A MIDI keyboard is typically piano style electronic
musical keyboard. It is used for sending MIDI signals to
the computer.
GAMEPAD
A gamepad is used for playing video games of many
types. It has multiple buttons and may have one or two
joysticks.
TRACKBALL
A trackball is an input device used to enter motion data
into computers or other electronic devices. It serves the
same purpose as a mouse, but is designed with a
moveable ball on the top, which can be rolled in any
direction.
JOYSTICK
A joystick is a cursor control device used in computer
games and assistive technology . The joystick, which got its
name from the control stick used by a pilot to control the
ailerons and elevators of an airplane.
SCANNER
A scanner is a device that captures images from
photographic prints, posters, magazine pages and similar
sources for computer editing and display. Scanners come in
hand-held, feed-in, and flatbed types.
HANDHELD SCANNER
A handheld scanner, as the name suggests, refers to an
electronic device that performs the same tasks as that of
a flatbed scanner. It is used to scan physical documents
into their digital forms that can be stored, edited,
transferred and emailed digitally.
TRACKPAD
A trackpad or touchpad is inbuilt with laptop. It is used to
do work of mouse.
WEBCAM
The most popular use of webcams is to permit computers to
act as videophones or videoconference stations. Other
popular uses include security surveillance, computer vision,
video broadcasting, and for recording social videos.
CAMERA
A camera is an instrument to capture still images or to
record moving images, which are stored in digital system
or on photographic film.
MIC
A mic is used to send our voice to the computer. It
comes in variety of shapes and size.
MICROPHONE
A microphone is similar to mic. It is also used to send
our voice to the computer
PUNCH CARD READER
A punch card reader is used to scan finger prints
and read ATM card data as well as other cards
data. Verification is the main purpose of punch
card reader.
GRAPHIC TABLET
A graphics tablet is a computer input device that enables a
user to hand-draw images, animations and graphics, with a
special pen-like stylus.
OCR READER
OCR stands for Optical Character Recognition. It is similar
to the scanner. But instead of scanning it is used to scan
the characters from the printed document or hard copy.
OMR READER
OMR stands for Optical Mark Recognition. This popular
recognition technology is used for collecting data from “fill-
in-the-bubble” forms such as educational tests, surveys,
assessments, evaluations, and many other multiple choice
forms.
OUTPUT DEVICES
MONITOR
Monitor is a display screen used to provide visual output
from a computer, cable box, video camera, VCR or other
video generating device. Computer monitors use CRT
and LCD technology, while TV monitors use CRT, LCD
and plasma technologies.
SPEAKERS
The purpose of speakers is to produce audio output that
can be heard by the listener. It convert electromagnetic
waves into sound waves. The speakers receive audio
input from a device such as a computer or an audio
receiver.
PRINTER
A printer is used to print the data, document and
photos on the sheet of paper.
HEADPHONES
Headphones are a pair of small speakers used for
listening to sound from a computer, music player or other
such electronic device. Headphones originally consists of
one speaker for each ear, connected by a band over the
head.
PROJECTOR
A projector or image projector is an optical device that
projects an image (or moving images) onto a surface,
commonly a projection screen.
PLOTTER
A plotter is a computer hardware device much like a
printer that is used for printing vector graphics. Instead of
toner, plotters use a pen, pencil, marker or another writing
tool to draw multiple, continuous lines onto paper rather
than a series of dots like a traditional printer.
MISCELLANEOUS
DEVICES
PRINTER with SCANNER
A device which has both functions of printer and
scanner. It is used for scanning as well as printing
function.
TOUCH SCREEN
A touch screen is a display that can recognize a touch to
its surface area, either with a finger or a stylus. Touch
screens are commonly used on cell phones, PDAs, ATM
machines, video games and even supermarket terminals.
HEADSET
A headset is a hardware device that connects to a
telephone or computer that allow the user to talk and
listen while keeping their hands free. Headsets are
commonly used in technical support and customer service
centres and allows the employee to talk to a customer
while typing information into a computer.
VIDEO GRAPHIC CARD
A video card connects to the motherboard of a computer
system and generates output images to display. Video
cards are also referred to as graphics cards. Video
cards include a processing unit, memory, a cooling
mechanism and connections to a display device.
SOUND CARD
A sound card is an internal expansion card that provides
input and output of audio signals to and from a computer
under control of computer programs. The term sound
card is also applied to external audio interfaces used for
professional audio applications.
FAX MACHINE
A fax machine is used to send a document electronically
over the phone network to another fax machine. When you
place a document in one fax machine and dial another one,
the fax machine you're sending to will print out a copy of
the document.
MODEM
A modem is a device or program that enables a computer
to transmit data. for example: telephone or cable lines.
Computer information is stored digitally, whereas
information transmitted over telephone lines is transmitted
in the form of analog waves.
