Entry 1
This chapter divided into 4 parts. Self- concept, Self serving bias, The power of positive thinking and Robert
Holden.
Self-concept. Also known as our sense of self. Know more and thourough about self character, attitude
and so on. When people ask you or answer a question, what the answer you write is all about how you define
yourself. Besides, In self and culture, there are two category which is independent and interdependent.
Independent mean personal, it defined by individual traits and goals. While interdependent mean social, it
defined by connection with others. Other than that, independent come with personal achievement and
fulfillment. Interdependent come with social responsibilities and relationships. I‟m a person who less of
confident, poor in communication and quiet.Self knowledge, self explanation are often wrong. So when need to
make a decision, depend on what kind of decision, often can ask from family, friend, cousin, teacher,
professional else. If love, better ask from friend because love is blind, yourself cannot make decision or look
clearly about your boyfriend/girlfriend.
Self serving bias. It means the tendency to perceive oneself favorably. Self serving bias works as
attributing one‟s success ability and effort, comparing oneself favorably with others, unrealistic optimism, false
consensus.
The positive thinking. Happy was started to be less and less. When people grow up, they already
become a busy woman/man that busy for their work. They forget about what is happy. Owing to earn more
profit, they don‟t have time to make themselves happy. But, happy is very easy to get. Took 2-5 minutes a day
to imagine the happiest day of your life, and then bring this moment happiness throughout your whole day.
That‟s will work and make us become more energy.
Robert Holden. He is a happiness psychologist. He has own happy formula that‟s is smile or laugh at
least 20 minutes a day, at least 20 minutes for exercise everyday, placed coloured dot around every room
include home and work place. Whenever saw the coloured dot, think positive memory, event, possibility.
Reflection. I‟m a person who less of confident, poor in communication and quiet. Throughout this topic,
know that not very know my actual character and attitude. Try to change.
Entry 2
The powers and perils of intuition. Our thinking is partly controlled and partly automatic. So thinking divide
into 2 category which is control and automatic. Reflective, deliberate, conscious are controlled while impulsive,
effortless, unconscious are automatic. Automatic thinking of schemas are mental concepts that guide our
perception and interpretations. Emotional reaction is happened before there is time to deliberate thinking.
Expertise , for example recognize voice of friend on the phone. Unconscious thinking, for example buying a
rm3000 smartphone.
“Memory can be likened to a storage chest in the brain into which we deposit material and from which
we can withdraw it later if needed. Occasionally, something is lost from the „chest‟ and then we say we have
forgotten.”
Throughout this small experiment, mostly people disagree about this. Memories never ever lost or
forgotten. Just if someone don‟t want to think about a bad memories or event , they just say forgot. Actually it
would not. The memories will deeply keep in our heart. The officially answer is memories are not exact copied
of experience that remain on deposit in a memory bank.
Second experiment, five years ago how you feel about your parents and country? For me, appreciate that
have a complicated family but country really make me feel more disappointed .
The answer show that people whose attitudes have changed often insist that they have always feel much as they
now feel.
Entry 3
Vision, it is detection of light. Light is a part of the electromagnetic spectrum, the continuum of the frequencies
of radiated energy. Light visible because receptor equip wavelength 400-700nm, dark adaptation, and light
adaptation.
The psychology of colour. Different colour different meaning. Sometimes, colour also as mood. Visual
system as perceptual process, easily influenced by manipulating people‟s expectation. Visual is a magical thing
for me, let say about a picture. Some picture can see 2 or 3 face in the same time but the actual picture just a
girl. Different angle woukd make different effect. Inattentional Blindness, it was a kind of blindness at that
moment not that really blind. It involve the failure to see visible objects or events because one of the attention
is focused elsewhere.
The most shockness is the normal mask that can look 3D even in every angle, very realistic. Visual
illusions also very confusing for me. Look weird in a picture but actually just do an adjustment. For example an
apparent room.
