Sustain your successful PLC by keeping knowledge fresh and providing coaching for
school leaders to assist in handling problems as they arise.
Welcome. My name is … . We’re going to talk today about a common question that we get at these events “what’s next”. We’re going to talk about a series of solutions that we offer to help districts and schools with wherever they are on their PLC Journey. Before we get started, I want to show you a video which provides a good example.
This is one example of one common formative assessment from a team at Piedmont Elementary. In order to see results, this kind of rigor should be followed by all teams for all essential standards by every team in your school or district. This is hard work. It’s difficult both culturally and tactically. We will be presenting services that we offer at every stage of implementation to help with this work.
I’m going to take you through an ideal PLC journey and the services that we offer at each stage. I say ideal because we know that every school is different and you might be in several stages all at once. But what we’ve seen from working with many districts is that some parts of the journey are like painting a house – if you follow a certain sequence – if you do the scraping and sanding and priming before you paint, the job goes a lot easier. So let walk through the stages…
Sanger district leaders launched their PLC initiative in 2005 after attending a PD session offered by Rick and Becky Dufour
Edmond Public Schools, in OK, has been sending groups to events for 12 years. The district requires each new member no matter the level to attend at least 1 Solution Tree event within their first year of employment as a requirement for them to understand the culture of PLCs. Excitement has increased each year around attending so much that they will be hosting the 2016 PLC Institute in June this year.
Birdville ISD, TX (30 school district in the suburbs of Fort Worth) needed a solution to get 300 teachers on the same page at one time with the best PLC experts and content available but didn’t have the budget to travel to a PLC at Work Institute. They selected a PLC Institute Hybrid Event which not only fulfilled their needs, but far surpassed them. Patrick Guy, who booked the PD, said it was the “best professional development the district has had in the last decade.”
Online Courses are an excellent way to ensure that all staff has a baseline of understanding on core concepts. They are also one of the only ways that administrators can prove learning.

A way to prove learning
Cartwright School District was looking for on-demand PD with current and relevant topics to continue strengthen their PLC's. Mary Kay Radavich, director of STEM and PLCs
At Cartwright recently told us, “The access to the videos as a tool for professional development has been amazing! We love Global PD!”
Eau Claire, WI: is now in their second year of doing embedded coaching with those schools after the Academies. The district has 19 schools and about 900 teachers. According to the Elementary Curriculum Director, Kris Dimock, “the PLC Coaching Academy was the best thing we’ve ever done for our staff and our students.”
Jefferson County PS, KY (163 schools, 98K students) needed a more consistent approach/contact with PLC expects to help bridge the gap from attendance at PLC Institutes and/or their onsite embedded coaching (this gap was sometimes several months where their school leaders were left to figure it out on their own). To solve this need, they invested in Virtual PLC Coaching for 70 of their title 1 principals. The program was so successful that 70 non-title 1 principals, upon hearing from their peers in the program, invested their own funds to join.
Mission CISD, in San Antonio, TX has15,000 students across 23 sites, They provided the Coaching Academy to the secondary staff leadership members of each site (principal, instructional coach, ast. principal, lead teacher). They are now expanding the program to do the same for elementary and are sending 275 members to our San Antonio PLC Institute.
.
Tangipahoa Parish – LA – 20k students – 35 sites – Struggling with having staff create quality CFAs. Decided to have a 2 day onsite professional development workshop on CFAs. After their experience with first 2 day session was complete they quickly booked an additional 4 onsite days furthering that process. The feedback was, “this is the best assessment work we have ever done. Everyone has loved the match that was provided. We feel like she has given us not only the direction needed, but the tools necessary to continue to improve upon this work”
South Texas ISD needed a tool that meshed with their mission of district wide PLCs, but was able to help them become more prescriptive with their data and that is exactly what GLOBAL PD has done for them.
Global PD is the tool that Piedmont used to monitor its CFAs.
Grant Wood AEA and AEA 267 (two regional centers in Iowa) needed a way to provide RTI training and information to their secondary schools. The long term focus of the academy (6 days over several months time) allowed school teams to, not only learn how to create a system of interventions, but also provided them ongoing support throughout the process.
