3. Large wooden crosses are a common sight in Church yards during Lent.
 During the first few days the cross is generally draped in a purple or ornate
cloth. It symbolizes the royal robes that Christ was made to wear during his
mock trial.
 Most churches replace the regal cloth with a black stole on Palm Sunday or
on Good Friday. This is significant of Christ’s crucification, pain and death.
 On Easter most churches drape the cross in white cloth and at times decorate
it with white lilies. It signifies the ‘rise of Jesus from the dead and the empty
grave.’
