San Francisco Estuary Wetlands Conservation

A wetland is an essential ecosystem that existed for millions of years on the earth. These ecosystems comprise partially submerged lands, and are the habitat of a good number of significant species. The natural filtration system of these ecosystems results to the natural cleaning of water in wetlands. Among the most significant wetland areas in the United States is the San Francisco estuary. These wetlands include a significant part of Western California. It also drains around forty percent of the water in the state.
The estuary in the San Francisco Bay area is situated in California along the western part of North America. It covers around sixty thousand square miles in the coastal area. Since the wetlands absorb around forty percent of the water of the state, it is significant to the welfare of the state. The water is filtered through numerous methods in the wetlands.
The area has a huge variety of abiotic a

The area has a huge variety of abiotic and biotic traits that contribute to the
importance of the estuary to the ecosystem of the area. The numerous traits of the
region that covers a high biodiversity level contribute to the importance of its abiotic
features. The first abiotic feature is the disparity in salinity level of water that is
determined by the estuary’s area. Low salinity levels are present in regions
surrounding the estuary’s river mouths. On the other hand, other estuary regions
may have a maximum salinity level of 3.5 percent. This situation makes it possible
for numerous organisms to survive, including salt and fresh water fish. In addition,
amount of sunlight that the region receives is another significant abiotic
characteristic of the region. The region receives around 160 days of sunlight each
year. Growth of phytoplankton and algae will be enhanced with a bigger number of
days that it is exposed to sunlight. These organisms are important providers in a
food chain. Another significant abiotic trait of the estuary is the volume of nutrients
present in the area. The wetlands are nutrient-rich due to the water that flows into
the area. This will result to a higher carrying capacity than smaller-sized wetlands.
A number of biotic characteristics are also pres
