A Critique of the Proposed National Education Policy Reform
How to develop my teaching and that of others around me
1. Education is a lifelong process that
happens every single day.
Teachers should not consider
education starts and ends inside a
classroom but also outside it, in their
communities, in their homes, in the
streets...
It also does not end when we finish
High School or even Master studies.
Professionals should keep updating our
knowledge, and educators ought to be
the first ones to do so.
2. For keep developing teaching skills
throughout our lives, not only
experience is crucial.
Keep or minds open for learning
with our students is, too.
Have you ever wondered how much
our pupil know more than us about a
variety of subjects?
3. Symposiums, workshops and
lectures so that teachers can share
our experiences is another way to
make us learn.
What would someone else do in a
particular situation?
What someone else actually did in a
particular situation?
Let's learn together!
4. Finding ways to engage and involve
students in the learning is probably
more important than anything else.
How can we make students leave
school and keep interested in the
subject learned? They could do an
assignment for deepen their
knowledge.
But what if they voluntarily decided to
look for something on the internet?
How to bring this search in the next day
so that all the others would also learn
that?
Thirty students bringing their own
knowledge for the classroom would
certainly be a good way for developing
5. Bringing an outside view and
changing environment. Literally.
It is interesting how a different
environment can make us see
something from a different point of
view.
And how our memory works in different
environments.
There is some research on that, but I
recommend you to look for this
reasearch yourself. You will certainly
find much more useful information in
the search than you would if I posted a
link here :)
6. And yes, I myself will use more the
library and MOOCs for my own
development and share my findings
and insights with other teachers.
Reading and listening to people and
discussing with other professionals
our opinions also make us learn and
develop ourselves.
7. Our jobs are totally related to learning
and we are constantly applying new
techniques with our students.
However, we might also apply these
techniques for our own learning and
for our own goals.
For this reason, I think reflection itself
is a very good way to learn and to
engage our minds in learning.
