The document discusses Cisco's applications strategy and opportunities for developers. It highlights trends in video usage, cloud adoption, and mobile workforces. Cisco aims to support developers through its developer program, which provides SDKs, APIs, documentation, training, and a marketplace. Developers can also use Cisco AppHQ to securely deploy and manage apps for enterprises.
One third of corporations say they are using video at least once per week. The average daily volume of Web-based attacks observed in 2010 was 93 percent higher than in 2009. 42% of enterprises rank cyber risk as their top concern, more than natural disasters, terrorism and traditional crime.
Clearing: The best architecture in the industry plus the best developer program in the industry…Cisco Collaboration architecture is open, extensible, and delivers business transformation across the enterprise through a comprehensive product suite. Embedded Collaboration increases the value and reach of your enterprise apps by increasing the value your app brings to the enterprise.Interoperability and unified communications framework ensures a consistent experience from any workspace device – and expands developer’s distribution reach.APIs and documentation for Cisco Collaboration solutions are available in the Cisco Collaboration Developer program – as are developer services across the application development and distribution lifecycle. These include: cloud-based developer environments with configured Cisco infrastructure, app distribution to Cisco customers and partners via AppHQ and AppHQ manager, and a range of sales and marketing services for app reseller partners.
With Cisco AppHQ, customers gain flexibility with application access. Cisco is making available several innovative application deployment options.Enterprise IT has the option to grant user access to the Android Market Place, which has a large ecosystem of developers constantly creating new applications at “web speed.” This can be done enterprise wide, by user, by groups of users or by device. Permissions can be addressed via Cisco Unified Communications Manager or AppHQ via the cloud. In addition, as an industry first, customers will be able to have Cisco host, on the customer’s behalf, their OWN custom applications center. This is the Customer’s version of AppHQ. The customer owns the app ecosystem. This enables the customer to make available to their employees only the applications that are of interest to their business. These capabilities are unique in the industry today (no one else does this). The management suite of tools and reporting that enables this is called AppHQ Manager.
Creating one’s own private app center is easy with AppHQ Manager – the process begins by going to Cisco AppHQ and clicking on the right navigation box.
AppHQ Manager enables:Ability for IT to create their own private application center (from AppHQ) – customizing the look and feel for their brand. When done, their private app center icon will appear on the Cius home screen (replaces Cisco AppHQ) and employees have access to just their private app environment (unless IT permits access to Android Marketplaces as a capability described with Cisco AppHQ previously).AppHQ Manager permits bulk purchase of applications by p.o or credit card. (IT only). Subsequent capability to deliver support for end users making purchase of individual apps within a private app environment is roadmap (example being that a small group within a larger organization has need for an app that other groups within the company would not need). This will not be supported in first release of AppHQ Manager. User Management – categorizing users by role (sales, finance, executive branch) is possible to more easily deploy and manage apps.Track downloads to manage costs (if an app is the company’s private app center but has few downloads, the company may choose to remove the app and avoid additional license fees).Release management – managing app updates (accept all anytime or sandbox any new updates until company tested (or have Cisco test on their behalf for a fee).
