2. 19th century Louisiana Purchase Bought for $15 million which what was 6 states from the French Was not on intention from the United States but rather accidental. America could not have been a world power had it not been for the Louisiana Purchase Civil War The Civil War was a United States war between the North and the South over the issue of slavery. Throughout the 19th Century the U.S. was expanding and deciding whether the state would be free or slave. As the country was getting more states the north and south were drifting further apart from each other and tension built.

3. 19th century After the end of the civil war under the 15th Amendment Slavery was abolished. President Abraham Lincoln gets assassinated by John Wilkes Booth in 1865 Industrialization was booming in the United States after the Civil War. Industrialization brought a mass immigration from foreign countries over to the United States in search of new opportunities.

4. Ice Age The Ice Age lasted for centuries. Many thought it was from the work of the devil. Caused many people, crops, and birds to die because of the cold harsh weather. The weather was a result to the Great Famine of 1315-1317 where crime was at an all time high, deaths from diseases and cannibalism. Played a part in the French Revolution that occurred in 1789. Because of the Ice Age beer was invented because wine could not be made due to the weather.

5. Frontiers of the America Vanishing Frontier: 1832-1834 German Aristocrat Prince MaximillianZuWied and Swiss Artist Karl Bodmer went on a journey to the American West to what was known as the Missouri River and which is presently known as Montana.

6. Frontiers of America: The Louisiana Purchase In July of 1803 the Louisiana Territory was bought by the U.S. from the French for $15 million and 825,000 square miles. The Purchase was the biggest moment for Thomas Jefferson. It was also an opening for American expansion.

7. The Louisiana Purchase The French needed funds, so he decided to sell not just New Orleans but all of the Louisiana territory to the United States. The British bank Baron and Bank helped U.S. with the purchase of Louisiana because U.S. was nearly $8 million in debt. This purchase was not an intention for the U.S. but instead just kind of happened. The Federalist was against the idea stating that it was against the Constitution and this was one of the reasons for there demise.

8. Battle of Antietam The Battle of Antietam was known to be the bloodiest battle ever. This battle occurred on September 17, 1862. 6,300-6,500 soldiers killed both Union and Confederates. During the Battle of Antietam the Confederate Rebels was led by Robert E. Lee and the Union was led by George B. McClellan

9. Battle of Antietam In the beginning the Confederates consisted of eleven states and had their own government in Richmond. They also seized Fort Sumter so it seemed like the Confederates had a pretty good advantage. President Lincoln believed in order for the Union to win this war the Union would have to defeat the Confederate armies and destroy their government.

10. Battle of Antietam One of the first victories from the Confederates was with “Stonewall” Thomas J. Jackson who went up against General Nathaniel Banks and his soldiers. As a result Jackson and his soldiers defeated Banks and his soldiers. Robert E. Lee was underestimated as general having nicknames such as “Granny Lee” and “Evacuating Lee.” The Seven Day Battle was another victory for the Confederates. Many even believed that the Rebels were going to win the war and gain independence from the Union.

11. Battle of Antietam After the Battle of Antietam things started to change when the North ended up with the upper hand against the Southern rebels with the invasion of Maryland. After the North gained the advantage after the Battle of Antietam Abraham Lincoln decided to announce the Emancipation Proclamation. The Emancipation Proclamation was something he wanted to announce from the beginning but the rebels had the upper hand in beginning. The Emancipation brought some controversy with not just the South but a few Northerners as well along with France and Great Britain.
