Thailand Motorcycle Tours
Our two week motorcycle trip takes place in the
wild north of Thailand through twisty mountain
country.
The journey through Siam begins in the ancient
royal city of Chiang Mai, the largest city in the
north, which is well known for its temples its
idyllic location and the lively markets. This makes
it one of the most interesting cities in the country.
From there, the tour takes us first to the Golden
Triangle where the borders of Burma, Laos and
Thailand clash on Mekong River.

It is on winding roads along
the Burmese border to
explore wild mountain
ranges, ancient cultural
cities, unspoilt mountain
villages and fascinating
ancient temples .
And in the evening the weary biker will find himself in
fantastically located, comfortable resorts and enjoy the
delicious Thai cuisine.

Thailand Motorcycle Tour Overview
Day 1: CHIANG MAI, ARRIVAL
The Thailand Motorcycle Tour organisers
meet you at the airport. Transfer to Mae
Saa Valley, located roughly 20 kms north of
Chiang Mai. Dinner and accommodation at
Away Suansawan Resort, Mae Rim at Mae
Saa Valley.
Day 2: DOI ANGKHANG
Departure from the Mae Saa Valley in the
morning drive our motorbikes in due
northern direction, past Chiang Dao to
Arunothai located right on the Burmese
border.
From here, a most scenic drive brings you up the back of Doi (Mountain)
Angkhang. We visit both the Royal Project and the Palaung village.
Dinner and accommodation at Amari Angkhang Nature Resort Hotel.

Day 3: DOI MAE SALONG
Leaving Doi Angkhang, we ride through a
road over the mountain ridges and descend
into the fertile plains surrounding the
Northern city of Fang. We move in the
northern and reach Thatorn, where we
visit the small palace belonging to HM
Princess Sirindhorn from where we can
enjoy a stunning view over the gorge-like
valley of the Kok River. We then visit the
Akha hilltribe community center at Ban
Lorcha.
Afterwards, we ride our motorcycles to Doi
Mae Salong, known for Santi Khiri, the
Chinese village on top of the mountain.

Day 4: DOI TUNG & GOLDEN TRIANGLE
In the morning, we visit Thoed Thai to look at the barracks of Khun Sa
and the museum nearby.
Later, we drive up to Doi Tung, and look at the the Doi Tung
Development project and the the Mae Fah Luang Garden. Later in the
day, we ride on to the Golden Triangle where the borders of Burma,
Laos and Thailand meet at the Mekong River.
We then visit the Ubosot Temple which excels through its fantastically
carved doors and windows as well as the mural paintings inside. At the
foot of this hill there is a stupa that dates back to a thousand years.
Day 5: PHU CHI FAH
We ride our motorcycles to the foot of the Doi Patang mountain and
then a climb 200 steps brings us to the top of this mountain.
Afterwards, we back track a short way and follow the road on the
mountain ridge towards Phu Chi Fah from where a 700 m hike brings
us to the top of the most spectacular summit where we will enjoy
breathtaking views over stunningly beautiful mountain scenery.

Day 6: NAN & SALT MINES OF BO KLUA
We spend the day exploring the hidden secrets of the ancient kingdom
of Nan which is located in the remote valley of the Nan River,
surrounded by mountains covered with forests. A charming provincial
city little known in the rest of Thailand, Nan boasts several old palaces
made entirely of teak. We visit Wat Phumin, Nan’s most famous temple.
Also included in the days schedule is a roundtrip of 200 km through
the Doi Phu Kha National Park and over a fantastic mountain pass to
the salt mines of Bo Klua, where people still today extract salt from the
ground in the traditional method.

Day 7: KWAN PHAYAO – PHRAO
We start today's motorbike ride by riding to the rice plains of Phayao
province until we reach Phayao town on the main highway that leads
from Bangkok to Chiang Rai. We make a stop at Kwan Phayao,
Thailand’s largest natural lake.
A motorcycle ride through remote mountains then leads us to the quaint
little town of Phrao.

Day 8: PAI
In the morning, we ride over small country roads across the Ping River
to Mae Malai where we can visit the local market. From Mae Malai we
head into the mountains again and take the road that leads to Pai. On
the way, we make a stop at Mokfa Waterfall. From here, we continue
uphill to arrive in Pai in the afternoon. This pretty town, inhabited by
Shan people and Haw Chinese, invites for a leisurely stroll through the
centre.

Day 9: PAI
Full day at leisure. There are optional opportunities like the nearby
small elephant camp where you can book a ride and a bath with your
elephant.
Day 10: MAE HONG SON
This morning, we will ride our motorbikes via Soppong to Mae Hong
Son. High up in the mountains we make a stop at a very scenic Lisu
market from where we can also enjoy great views over the mountains.
We will then take the main road to Mae Hong Son and stop at a Fish
Cave popular with local tourists.

Day 11: MAE AW HIGH
In the morning we take a boat trip on the Pai River to Ban Nam Pian
Din, a village of the Padaung (long neck) women. The Padaungs
belong to the Kayah or Karenni group in Burma. In the afternoon we
ride up to the Chinese Village Mae Aw high in the mountains at the
Burmese Border and the Royal Pang Tong Palace.

Day 12: MAE SARIANG
We leave Mae Hong Son and ride our motorcycles south
towards Khun Yuam which was an important airbase during
WW II. You can still see the old airfield and visit the small
WW II Museum.
From Khun Yuam we continue further and visit Mae Surin
waterfall, one of the most scenic waterfalls in Thailand. We
then return to Khun Yuam from where we ride on to Mae
Sariang through beautiful high plateau scenery with great
forests.

Day 13: CHIANG MAI
Leaving Mae Sariang, we ride our motorbikes east on
the winding roads along the valley and up over several
mountain ridges till we reach the quaint little town of
Mae Chaem. From here, we ride up the back side of Doi
Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain at 2,565 meters
above sea level. The popular National Park is a paradise
for birdwatchers and offers evergreen forests, impressive
waterfalls, interesting flora and fauna and marvellous
natural scenery. After a stop and a visit on the top of Doi
Inthanon, we descend in direction of Chomthong and
continue to Chiang Mai.

Day 14: CHIANG MAI
Full day at leisure or optional motorbike ride up to Doi
Suthep Mountain overlooking Chiang Mai and visit of Wat
Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai’s most revered temple on the
mountaintop.

Day 15:
After breakfast,
transfer to Chiang Mai

flight will take off.
